Anyone been and loved it? If you did could you please share which resort you stayed in. We’d be looking to book our own flights and either villa/apartment rather than hotel. TIA

I have only been to Zagreb so couldn't tell you, but just a question for those of you who have traveled throughout Croatia, is the Broadneck OK for English? What about split? I am visually impaired, and I do speak a lot of languages, but not Croatian, I could barely pronounce how to cross the road in the language, and I really depend on being able to have a way to communicate. Sorry, I'm using dictation, not Broadneck, the city that begins with D and ends with a K Dubrovnik , It got it! Finally!

Everyone speaks English in Dubrovnik in my experience.

Rovinj, Istrian riviera; fly into Pula.
Hotel Eden or Lone

It’s so beautiful if you like a small town, beautiful warm pools, great sea swimming, lovely little restaurants etc.
We have booked to go again next year. You can also get a ferry across to Venice for a day trip.

We love Croatia - Cavtat, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar ((Stari Grad), Split and Trogir are all places we have visited and would recommend all.

If you like walks and beautiful scenery go to Plitvice. Stay the night before in a lodge nearby spend the next day there stay second night. It's about 1-1/2 hrs drive from split airport. It's incredible.

We did a week in Istria (near Pula) a day week near Zagreb this summer. Preferred Istria but both were lovely. Would definitely go back and it was not full on touristy/crowded even in August.

I've been to Dubrovnik a bunch (stay in Lapad) and it is fab, we got married there. However, it's also extremely pricey and crowded. They're trying to limit the number of cruise ships each day as the town can get overwhelmed, especially with the GoT tourists on top. We were last there in 2012 and it was noticeably more busy than in other years.

I'd second the Istrian peninsula. We spent two weeks there in August last year, one week in Rovinj and a week in Opatija. We flew to Pula (closer to Rovinj), you could also fly to Rijeka (closer to Opatija). Both were lovely towns, with great excursion options - we went to Venice for a day, and also Lake Bled in Slovenia among others. I would have a preference for Rovinj, but both worth checking out. Much cheaper and quieter than Dubrovnik, but Rovinj in particular has a similar charm.

Everyone in contact with tourists speaks excellent English IME - and French, German, Italian, Spanish etc etc etc. Quite humbling as a useless English speaker!

We flew into Split and stayed about 45 min away. I can’t remember the name of the town but we had the most fabulous villa. It was very expensive though, so more of a one-time splurge than something we can do every year. If you want the info and your budget is generous, PM me.

Has anyone any experience travelling on holiday to Croatia with older children early secondary school age, how did this go, which area/resort, hotel or private let did you stay at please?
We could only visit in either May half term for a week or could go the last two weeks in August. Do you know what the weather is like then?
I really fancy Rovinj but most other places look nice too.

Brighteyes27 · 08/01/2018 20:27

Anyone just no one has mentioned children on this thread so I was wondering if you had all visited with or without your children or pre children?

We've just booked a mobile home on the beach in Camping Village Simuni, on Pag. Never been to Croatia before, it looks lovely on the website; Direct accss to 6 beaches.. (mostly stoney or fine grain) water sports (which is what drew us .. we have 3 kids aged 12, 14 and 15) We would have booked via Eurocamp but the reviews said their caravans were quite dated and up a hill, so we booked direct with the camp instead. Otherwise the reviews were all very positive and apparently Eurocamp have bought a bunch of new caravans this year. Would be interested to hear anyone else's experience of this area 😄.
