Disney Paris... Newport, NY or Sequoia???

Already had a look on several (many) threads... not sure which one to pick... it's for a 1 night stay in July. We have 2 kids adn a baby.
I am interested in all your experiences... and of course if you have tried several of the hotels, which one you liked or didn't like...
Thanks

sequoia lodge is lovely. If its only for 1 night I personally would go for the cheapest.

littlemisssensible · 09/04/2007 18:55

I think NY is closer to the park but more expensive than Sequoia. I've stayed in Sequoia with a 2 year old and it was lovely but I've also stayed in Cheyenne with my eldest 2 when they were 7 and 9 and they really enjoyed it...they loved the wild west theme and sitting on saddles for breakfast!

However I agree with WW, if its only for 1 night go for the cheapest which is probably gonna be Sequoia of the ones you've listed (though Santa Fe and Cheyenne may be cheaper!)

I'm saving for a 2 or 3 night stay in the poshest part of the Disneyland Hotel (the one over the park gates) with a room over looking Main Street, but I'm a sad Disney Muppet!!!! I'll probably never be able to justify the expense though!

pupuce · 09/04/2007 18:57

Does the Sequoia have a pool?

Sorry, forgot to say that a friend stayed in Newport and said it was brilliant but it seems to be a bit further from the park!

Not too much further but with small children every foot counts!

pupuce · 09/04/2007 19:02

Littlemiss... I am so not a disney girl but if I was I would do like you a few days at the Disneyland hotel!

And did any of you do the Bufalo Bill show... worth it?
I have a 7 yo DS!

Yep, Sequoia has a pool...not that I've been in it as it was closed for a refit when we stayed . May be worth checking that if its important to your stay!

My DH says I get more excited that dd when we get an autograph/photo. I really didn't think I'd enjoy the hype aetc before I went but I'm afraid I fell for the 'magic' hook, line and sinker .

I prefere Eurodisney though. Disneyland Florida is just Toooooo big!

littlemisssensible · 09/04/2007 20:05

I've not done the Buffalo Bill show because I'm allergic to horses so didn't really want to be in an enclosed space with them! Also dd was only 4 last time we went so she wasn't really interested!

I could imagine that your ds would enjoy it though!

roberta3 · 09/04/2007 20:25

My DS's aged 8, 6 and nearly 3 loved Buffalo Bill. We went last month and it was free for them but even if we'd paid I would say it was worth it. Saves you looking for somewhere to eat!

pupuce · 09/04/2007 20:27

How come it was free? As it is quite expensive any discount I can find is a BIG plus !

Any extras were free for kids till end of March - that's why we went then. Went to Buffalo Bill and Disney breakfast and just paid for me and DH. 2 year old free because you don't pay for children until they are 3. This made a massive difference because the cost for a family of 5 was so much greater than 4. It did mean squashing him into a cot but he was fine.

The travel agent didn't know about the offer though. It's worth looking at the Disney website even if you don't book through that. Turn the volume down if you're planning a surprise though because site has sickly Disney music playing very loudly!

I'd go for the cheapest. Have never spent that long in our accomodation on a Disney holiday. DD has always wanted to be in the parks from morning till night, so have rarely used any of the extra accomodation features!

pupuce · 10/04/2007 13:00

Thanks everyone, that's useful stuff

Stayed in Newport and NY and NY not as nice or child friendly. Newport is a little further, but extra walk not too bad and beside nice lake!

ultra · 10/04/2007 16:41

Just had a fantastic holiday staying at the NY Hotel - I have 2 girls -3 and 5. Pool was lovely - excellent breakfast and room overlooking the ice-skating.

MelissaClaire · 10/04/2007 21:45

I have never been to DLP (or any DisneyLand). DH and I are planning to go in September with 14 month old and 3.5 year old. Firstly, would they enjoy it or are they too young (3.5 year old is seriously into anything princess like!).

We would like to treat ourselves and were thinking of going by EuroStar. What hotel should we stay in, and what type of room would make most sense? Would 2 nights be enough, or should we plan for 3?

Thanks for the help.

littlemisssensible · 11/04/2007 13:52

I'd have said 2 nights is enough, that'll give you 2 half days and one whole day in the park! They are doing one night free if you book 2 nights or over during certain dates which, as your children are under school age!, may be worth checking.

I'm sure both children will love it, although the 3.5 will probably get the most out of it!

Hotel wise I'd reccomend one of the park ones (rather than one of the 'off site' hotels advertised) but which one depends on your budget and what you want!

MintChocChippyMinton · 11/04/2007 14:02

Stayed Newport Bay, it is a longer walk than NY, but along the lake it is pleasant. The best thing we did was to upgrade to an admirals floor room so we could have room service breakfast and avoid the morning scrum in the restaurant, not sure if you can do this in the other hotels? Pool is nice, and has an outdoor section, but will you get a chance to use it?

MelissaClaire, deifinately go by eurostar direct to the park, stay at an on site hotel - you can check you bags in at the station and they are delivered to your hotel while you go straight into the park (and the reverse when you leave). Avoid weekends like the plague - very busy. Having taken my DC then aged 4,3, and 3, the only one that really enjoyed it was the 4yo. Height restrictions are a pain and most of the rides are a bit scarey. We will go again but not until the youngest is at least 6.

Hulababy · 11/04/2007 20:27

DD has always enjoyed Disney. At DLP at 18 months she had a lovely time onthe smaller rides and seeing the characters, and just looking around. In Floridia at 2y4m she had a ball on every ride she could get on. Then again at 3-4 years at both, she has had fantastic times.

So I would say that even with little children and toddlers you can have a really good time, and it is worth it!

Two days is enough at DLp (one park per day), but I would say 3 days means you don't feel like you have to rush around so much.

Hulababy · 11/04/2007 20:28

Definitely worth measuring the 3.5yo before they go, so you plan the rides. We found there was very little DD couldn't go on at DLP by time she was 4, and plenty before that anyway.

Chipstick · 11/04/2007 21:42

We stayed at Cheyenne last year for 3 nights and we are returning this year to the same hotel, again for 3 nights.

The hotel is great and our travel agent having been to all the hotels on a work tour recommended it to us.

Its not far to walk from the park and our 2 and 5 yr old loved it.

Leslaki · 15/04/2007 15:45

We stayed in the Neport bay for the 2nd time in Dec. 1st time we loved it, this time the hotel was great as usual but a lot of people (us inc) had problems with the rooms. Seemed a lot shabbier than they were 2 years before. Your kids will love it! My dd was 18m when we first took thema nd she had a ball! Not into the characters first time round at 18m and 36m but in Dec they were character mad - didn't have a problem with them being too small for rides as they fitted on the ones they wanted to do.

LIZS · 15/04/2007 16:13

We stayed at Sequoia last time and it was fine , had a lake view which was nice but noisier at night time (live music until midnight). The main gripe was eating in shifts. We went at a busy weekend (Ascension Day) and you had to reserve a slot for breakfast on arrival. The later you checked in the less choice you had. Also eating at a sensible hour in the evening without a reservation , either in the Disney Village or at one of the hotels, was a nightmare. Sequoia has a pool , but in 3 days we didn't use it , and both ours (then 2 and 6) loved Buffalo Bills and dd went and ate free as she was under 3. Do reserve in advance for the earleir show. Hope to go back this year but will probably stay in a different one - Newport Bay was nice about 10+ years ago !
