Sad to see this. I really liked them. Flowers to any MN’ers who work for them and best of luck to anyone with booked travel

Phone your credit card company - there isn't a "Monarch" any more to inform people.

LoFo2013 · 02/10/2017 10:57

Monarch administration is still running according to their website any queries ring whoever you booked your holiday with, if booked direct visit www.monarch.caa.co.uk I am currently on hold to who I booked my holiday with and have been for nearly 2hours as you can imagine they will have a huge amount of calls to get through as over 300,000 people were due to travel within the next two weeks.. very unfortunate yet another airline has gone under

LoFo2013 · 02/10/2017 11:00

Also check if you have an ATOL certificate that is your saving grace for getting a refund visit their website it will explain everything on there legally

GeorginaWorsley · 02/10/2017 11:03

Have the booked our half term flights this morning but cost 600£ more!
Should get our initial Monarch flight money refunded as luckily booked by credit card.
What a shame for Monarch,we have flown with them numerous times and never had any complaints.

Unihorn · 02/10/2017 11:05

Sad for those affected with holidays booked but glad to see the back of them. Used them in 2008 and had the worst experience ever and have stayed away from them since.

IcaMorgan · 02/10/2017 11:06

I booked with Monarch for next July. I just discovered it’s not ATOL protected . I paid via Paypal so am on the phone to them now. I do have insurance as well if I have trouble with Paypal

Madbengalmum · 02/10/2017 11:08

Shame, Monarch were far better than Ryanair and its idiot owner.

IcaMorgan · 02/10/2017 11:11

Paypal have said they will open up disputes for anyone that paid via them within 180 days of the payment. They are fast tracking the claims and they will be paid in 10 days rather than the usual 20 days. They said I will definitely be getting a refund and they will take the money direct from Monarchs account

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/10/2017 14:05

The Jet2 website is now saying that there will be new flights going on sale tomorrow to Spain and Portugal from Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham, which might help people who have lost Monarch flights.

HalleLouja · 02/10/2017 14:23

Thanks @barbaraofseville will look tomorrow.

chantico · 02/10/2017 17:24

Another BBC article, looking at why it went bust:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41466722

Four main reasons: fuel prices, competition, passenger numbers and impact of terrorism.

HalleLouja · 03/10/2017 09:50

I couldn''t see anything on Jet2's website about more flights and they all are ££££!

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/10/2017 10:53

Have a look here:

www.jet2.com/extra-seats/

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/10/2017 10:59

Link doesnt' work - there is a link though on the homepage.

You're right about them being expensive, it does look like Jet2/Easyjet/Ryanair are cashing in, but that's what they always do anyway - sell at the highest price possible according to demand and demand is high because hundreds of thousands of Monarch customers are suddenly desperately looking for replacement flights.

MujosMama · 03/10/2017 11:06

It's very sad but has been on the cards for a long time apparently. My dad worked for them for 22 years, retired 2 years ago. His description of how they kept bringing on expensive management consultants at the end was "like seagulls - they fly in, make a lot of noise, shit on everything then bugger off"

Only1scoop · 03/10/2017 11:16

Mujos

Your dad is completely right

So sad yesterday seeing all their aircraft just lined up on remote stands.

Flowersfor all the Monarch staff.

poppym12 · 03/10/2017 12:55

I travelled with Monarch last week (as usual) but due to time constraints I was flying back with Ryanair last night. Fortunate for me but very sad to see Monarch go. I've got other flights booked with Monarch which hopefully I'll be able to section 75 and chargeback for. I hope that as many as possible of the Monarch staff find jobs with other airlines.

HalleLouja · 05/10/2017 08:14

Well Tesco Credit Card have a special thing on their phone about what to do if you bought Monarch tickets, so have followed their instructions. Fingers Crossed.

poppym12 · 05/10/2017 08:31

Hope you get your refund halle. Virgin cc say that our claims are being dealt with by a 'special department for Monarch' so we'll wait and see. Two of our flights should be covered under section 75 but one of them was a bargainous £86 so unless a chargeback is accepted, that one is down the drain.

I've had to cancel the lovely hotel in Lisbon as I can't get flights from a nearby airport on the same days. The hotelier said that Easyjet will be taking over so not to cancel..... Erm that may well happen with some slots being taken by other airlines but it's not going to happen immediately is it.
I've booked an alternative break with a jet2 flight but yes, they do seem more expensive.

HalleLouja · 12/10/2017 10:54

Got an email from Tesco CC they are going through the many disputes they have and have a team dedicated to them!
