Venice or Florence?

4 night break with DH next year for our 10th wedding anniversary.
Can't choose!

NY is amazing but IMO too far for 4 nights - you’d lose holiday time travelling - and jet lag is rubbish. And costlier.

Venice if you like the scenery and meandering around on foot or boats, Florence if you like art and fancy being in more of a real, lively place. Venice felt like all there was was tourism and sinking buildings, quite sad. I preferred Rome to both.

Statue of David and Botticelli’s Venus were highlights of Florence for me.

Florence is very sophisticated and cosmopolitan; there are unmissable but giant museums. One of the joys of Venice is walking around and just dipping in and out of places. A boat over to Murano, or to s Giorgio maggiore. You can be far less structured if you don't have to avoid the lines at the Bargello etc, but Florence also has excellent shopping and often great concerts / ballet at fiesole whereas in Venice it's 500 versions of the 4 seasons by fourth rate players in churches. I do however adore Florian's and do not slightly begrudge the 6euro orchestra charge for the pleasure of sitting there

Either way, not ny!

I’ve booked a surprise visit to Florence for my DH’s 50th next year.
1 night in Florence then 3 in the Tuscan countryside.
I’ve hired a convertible 2 seater to get to the countryside.

I’d like to book a day out at a winery not too far from Arezzo if anyone knows one.

Not NY for a romantic 4 night holiday - too far, too busy, too much to do in too short a time.

You cant go wrong with Venice or Florence, I love them both. If youve never been to Venice before, then Id go there, it really is unique and spectacular. If youve already been then Id chose the destination with the best times of flights so that the journey is as easy as possible. Can I vote for Rome instead though

Venice is my favourite city so it wins hands down for me! Could you maybe do both? It's a quick, convent train ride between the two cities...
