Costa Brava campsites?

I have another query asking about accommodation differences but this one is about camps in Costa Brava. What are people's recommendations? We are looking at Castell Montgri and El Delfin Verde due to their nearness to the border but any recommendations would be very gratefully received.

Thanks

El Delfin verde is fabulous! We've been the last 3 years. The website doesn't do it justice at all. We've also stayed on Castell Montgri, but there is no comparison. The maintenance guy for Lifestyle Holidays who works on CM also, told us millions have been invested into DV the last few years. Nothing has been updated on CM for years. Advantages to CM IMO are you can walk to Estartit and there are a couple of waterslides, but I found the mobiles on top of each other, no privacy at all, food onsite awful and built into a mountain. I still had a great holiday there, but DV is so much nicer. On it's own beach, loads of food choices, a fantastic entertainment programme. You need a car there though. Any other questions just ask. It's my favourite part of the world 😀

That's so helpful thank you! Was it Lifestyle you stayed with? What level accommodation did you have? We've used Eurocamp abroad before and were burnt with a tiny old Canvas this summer but Eurocamp is so expensive!

We stayed in a 2 bed Sapphire. Its 32m.° The Ruby 3 is the same size, but 3 bed. For very little extra the Emerald is 40m° and a much nicer 3 bed. The Platinum is lovely 3 bed, 2 bath and 44m° If you pay upfront you get 10% off. The reps tend to be older couples. Not old, but not college kids IYKWIM. We find them fantastic.
We are going with Canvas to Cypsela next year as we fancied a change after 3 years on DV. What mobile were you in? I've booked the 3 bed Select Plus. (Worried now)!

MiniCooperLover · 24/09/2017 15:32

That's brilliant! Thank you so much. Please don't worry, we were in a 2 bed classic and I think we were unlucky because the park definitely had newer Canvas stuff but ours hadn't been upgraded that's all. Thanks for your help, very much appreciated 👍

Following with interest. As an aside, we booked direct with the French campsite we went to last year and saved £££££ compared to eurocamp prices.

MiniCooperLover · 28/09/2017 21:01

eternalopt, how soon in advance could you book direct? It's only going up to late Sept right now. I wonder if I email direct will they price it for me?

Thanks mirm - Am thinking of Castell Montgri next year as I want to be able to walk into town and not have to hire a car. Would you say l'Estartit is a nice town, also what is the beach like? Am thinking of booking with Lifestyle due to the price. However, your comments on DV are now making me wonder whether we should go there!!!

MiniCooperLover · 29/09/2017 14:22

mirm, having looked online the El Delfin Verde site looks lovely. What area did you stay in? Which would you recommend as a good area to be in? I'm debating looking at the bungalows direct with the site.

I went to DV 3 years in a row as a kid and loved it.

A friend went their last year with their family and raved about how good it was. As per a pp she said there’s been loads of investment in the site/facilities and apparently it really shows.

She went with Eurocamp and stayed in one of the Safari tents.

DarthMaiden · 29/09/2017 14:39

Pressed post too soon....

I was a bit surprised as she’s not a “natural camper” but looking at the safari tent is far more glamping than camping. Proper beds, well equipped kitchen with big fridge etc.

She said the kids loved being under canvas.

mirmc · 29/09/2017 16:11

Ooh Darthmaiden, the glamping tents are amazing ! My style of "camping" - aircon, dishwasher etc! My friend stayed in the Costa Brava bungalows, they are beautiful, much nicer than they look on the website. My other friend stayed in the Barcelona Bungalows, they are new and gorgeous too! I had serious accommodation envy, but as we were staying (in a lovely Lifestyle mobile) for 2 weeks and then flying up to Disney for 5 days, I got over it!
The website really doesn't do the site justice at all. The bar area has been completely renovated and has gorgeous chill out sofas, comfy loungers and huge parasols. It has a great new bar menu with gourmet burgers, great salads etc. The Asian restaurant has been done up as well.
I liked Castell Montgri, but DV is way nicer. The onsite supermarket is huge and as reasonable as outside ones. The entertainment on DV is the best of any site I've been on. My kids loved the shows, Beautyband the Beast, The Lion King, Mama Mia etc. I would recommend hiring a car though as it's not walking distance to a town.

DarthMaiden · 29/09/2017 16:39

I’ve just looked at the glamping on the DV website - it looks lovely!!!

Nicer than the caravans tbh Grin

Sorry. Late reply. We left it quite late as we were going out of season

MiniCooperLover · 02/10/2017 11:26

Hey there, just wanted to update to let you know we've booked direct with EDV, staying in one of the El Puig accommodations by the kids pool. Slightly fancier than a static and it worked out the same price as the Lifestyle Sapphire which was our other option so I thought I'd go direct. The prices were not cheap, Brexit has hit hard I think but I'm very excited about it now. The Costa Brava accommodation looked amazing but was definitely out of our price range (just over £3K for 2 weeks). We paid just over £2300 for 2 weeks and we'll still need to pay for the train plus a hotel on the way down to stop over. So all in all I'm pleased. Thank you for the recommendation mirm.

Hi MiniCooperLover,
Please report back and let me know if you like it? That's so lovely having a kids pool outside your door! I think there's a playground too. Have a lovely holiday.

MiniCooperLover · 02/10/2017 19:45

Thanks, I'm very excited even though it's 10 months away 😊 I'd have loved the Costa Brava or Barcelona bungalows but they were just a bit too pricy. Last year we spent the same £3k on a 2 week AI in Mallorca (albeit over May half term). Anyway it's sorted now so I'm pleased 👍

I felt the same. You're only sleeping in it, you'll be out on your deck. I'd prefer to have the extra money for eating out. Don't miss Peretallada, it's only a 10 minute drive. It's a medieval stone villge with windy streets, little squares and gorgeous restaurants. Really reasonable too, you'd imagine somewhere as beautiful as that would be extortionate! If you have any questions, please ask. It's great to have somewhere booked and all that time to look forward to it.
