We really need a holiday to look forward to, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for place/hotels... it'll be me, DH, Dd1 (5ys) dd2 (3yrs). I think we'd like somewhere with half board, a kids club, near a beach and local towns/villages near by. Ideally I don't want somewhere really big (busy). I have no idea on cost, we haven't been away for ages, so I guess the cheaper end.

Thanks in advance.

I've just booked for may half term. Need to go to Greece or canaries for the better weather. We got the last room at the hotel we booked so I would crack on if I was you.
Have a google for your dates on Thomson or similar. You can filter by kids club and board basis. Or just book cheap flights via EasyJet and accommodation seperate.
I'd look at crete, tenerife, gran canaries, lanzarote if I was you. Popping to a travel agent can be helpful too

There’s a Hoseasons holiday park on the southern coast of France, next to the Spanish border, about 15 minutes from Biarritz airport. It’s called Le Ruisseau. I’ve never been in May before, so I don’t know how busy it will be but the May half term never usually clashes with French school holidays so it should be nice. Anyway, even if it is busy, it never feels that way because the holiday homes are dotted around the woody site and the park is very spacious. It’s ideal for young families because there is a playground, nature trails, bike hire and on-site pizzeria (with take away option!). Of course there’s the pool complex with a children’s pool and another restaurant (for when you’ve had enough pizza). There is a good choice of nearby beaches (with BLUE seas J). I’ve never used it but I believe that there is a kids’ club so that parents can take advantage of the small but perfectly formed on-site spa. Travel cots and high chairs are provided free of charge.

The nearby village of Bidart is lovely for walks or head to Biarrtiz for some larger attractions. Apart from great French shopping, there’s also an aquarium and a small railway and we went on a gorgeous 30 minute train ride. Apparently there’s also a nearby animal park but we haven’t explored it yet.
