You're going to see the Dr Who exhibition, aren't you, MrsWho? I'd be interested to know as well

Lilymaid · 05/04/2007 18:41

It is very near Deansgate station. There used to be quite a bit of on-street parking if you went on a Sunday but it also has its own car park - get there early though

MrsWho · 05/04/2007 18:47

Fauve- No idea how you guessed that

Have been there before but it was a Sunday and parked on the street.

Driving prob earliest could arrive would be 10.30-11 so will be too late for the car park I guess.

Will look up train times.

Have you been yet? Only just spotted this. My dad helps out at the museum. I could ask him later today. He mentioned the other day that parking was horrendous at the moment because it is heaving with Dr Who fans.

Gobbledigook · 08/04/2007 09:53

I'd go on the tram. It's about a 5 min walk from G-MEX station, if that.

sstt · 08/04/2007 09:57

i looked at this yesterday on the website and they advised the tickets are selling out really fast every day so I'd go early (unless you are clever and already have tickets!). It looks great though

MrsWho · 08/04/2007 13:10

I have booked tickets-going on Thursday
Kids Very excited ,gettinginto Manchester 10.30ish on the train so should be there by 11

We went by train to Deansgate & the walk wasn't too bad.

Didn't realise there was a Doctor Who exhibition.

willywonkasEgghunt · 08/04/2007 13:30

Take the train to Deansgate station or the tram to GMex, depending upon where you're coming from. Either way it's a 5-10 minute walk. We're hoping to get along to the exhibition too at some point so would love to know what you think. I saw a remote control dalek in Albert Square a few weeks ago, that was being used to promote the exhibition, and it raised no end of smiles amongst the lunchtime office worker crowd .

Troutpout · 08/04/2007 13:47

If you are going in the hols you may not be able to park on the street on Sunday...as it could be really busy. Rest of the year we park on street or in the car park on a Sunday...(we go about 6 times a blardy year...it's ds's favorite place).
For the train to Manchester Picc you can get the tram to Gmex or we have just got a bus from outside Mancheter picc ...they run every 5 mins.

MrsWho · 09/04/2007 22:12

Is there anywhere near the museum/station for us to have tea before we come back?

OP posts:
willywonkasEgghunt · 09/04/2007 22:16

Your best bet is the museum's own café.

MrsWho · 09/04/2007 22:32

Will it be open at that time>? loads shut 3-4pm ish

OP posts:
willywonkasEgghunt · 10/04/2007 00:27

Didn't think it closed before 4pm but you'd have to call the museum to check. Assume you'll be leaving about then anyway to miss the rush hour squeeze - it really is getting worse by the week in town!!

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 10:58

Planning on getting train 4.50 so want to eat/grab something 4 ish but as we are having lunch there too don't want to do the same place twice IYSWIM.
Can't get onto the website either.

We went here today and even though we didn't get to go into the Dr Who exhibition the kids throughly enjoyed their day out. Lots and lots to do even without seeing the exhibition and there were the odd darlek and cyberman hanging around the place. Most probably walked past Mrs Who at some point during the day there as well.

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 19:31

NOt yet! Going on Thursday if anyone else goes I'll be looking out for MN t-shirts and bags!

willywonkasEgghunt · 10/04/2007 19:37

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 20:22

Sorry thought you were going today read this very quickly and saw the 2 magical words to my DS2! So we decided to go and see what was there. He has seen the exhibition before though when it was at Southport but the thought of Dr Who again is all too much for a little 5 year old! He was not impressed with the Tardis in the steam engine part though. Stood there very matter of a factly with arms crossed, saying that is not the Tardis its too pale and hasn't got the right signs on it! He is very particular!

MuffinMclay · 10/04/2007 21:27

According to my father, the museum has recently changed its catering company and the new one is rubbish and quite expensive. He suggests heading Deansgate where you'll be spoilt for choice in terms of eateries. Or Dukes92 - very popular, good food, but might get busy (although probably not at 4pm).

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:19

Ta, will prob look around locallythen as we need to cover 2 meals.
Aufish we went to the one at Spaceport but apparantly more things have been added since then , hoping for the Rachnoss!

How did your trip go, Mrs Who?

MrsWho · 12/04/2007 19:37

First we managed to end up on the wrong train at Lancaster (followed the intructions on the tannoy but noticed and manged to get the right one at Preston (in the meantime the kids got free virgin goody bags which were very good btw )

We got more or less straight into the Dr Who exhibition (Yay for prebooked tickets!) and we saw everything (it was busy though)
Went round the rest of the museum and Had lunch in the cafe which was quite nice but a bit pricy

We had to queue for Xperiment but once we got in it was fairly quiet but a few kids were getting in the way as all the adults were gawping at the window as you could see Corrie being filmed

We then managed to walk into the centre do some shopping and have some tea before getting the train home and arrived about 1/2hour ago!
