Spain at Easter time

Was about to book flights to Barcelona with a plan to travel by train, Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Valencia during the school Easter holidays. I'm now hesitating as I'm sure I've heard places can get very crowded at this time of year with religious festivals and parades.

Although this might be quite interesting I'm worried it will make booking accommodation and public transport a nightmare. Also not keen on fighting my way through crowds with three children in tow.

We were going for April over summer as the weather would suit us better, we're a ridiculously pale ginger family not made for the sun! Does anyone have any experience of these cities at this time of year?

Actual Easter festivals are at the end of march so if you go in April you will be fine. Weather will be pleasant and not too hot. May be cloudy.

Even though Easter Sunday is 1st April? That's good to know thanks Hersetta.

I wouldnt go to Seville at Easter, it will be HEAVING! The other places would be ok.

Have had a google and it does seem the festivals are the week running up to easter, so hopefully not too crowded after? Our plan was to go 1st-15th April, we'd be in Seville from 4th-6th. Would everywhere be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday when we'd be in Barcelona?

Seville will be completely mental from Palm Sunday on 25 March to 1 April. Although 1 April it's all pretty much over by lunchtime in terms of processions. Everything will be shut though. Holy Week in Seville is amazing, if you like that kind of thing, but is about the busiest times of the year.

Easter Sunday/Monday in Barcelona things restaurants will be open but probably not shops. There will be corner-shop type shops open in the Gothic quarter and El Born district (next to Gothic), but not bug chain clothes shops. Check individual museums as well as often they're all shut on Mondays.

Weather should be warming up nicely - especially down south. But bring layers and waterproof shoes just in case.

Everything is much calmer once Easter is over. Should be peaceful then.
