When do I notify the airline?

I've booked flights for six of us to go away this Saturday- one person is ill and may not be well enough to go. They will make a decision whether to fly by tomorrow afternoon
My query is whether it's best to ring easyJet as soon as I know or would it be ok to notify them when the rest of us check in?

You don't need to do anything. The person just doesn't turn up and that's it.

Thanks Blue, didn't realise it was that easy!

There's always people that just don't show up for check-in. That's why airline always sell more tickets than there are seats. They gamble on people not showing up. You don't need to tell them at all.

You've paid for the seat, easyJet don't care whether your bum is on it or not.

In fact it's probably better for them if your bum's not on it as they can resell the seat as stand by, or if they can't sell it, it's less inflight service for them, less cleaning and less fuel

Thanks for your help both - one thing less to worry about!

Yeah just let them know at check in though ideally beforehand so that they can in theory sell the ticket to someone else. However if as is usually the case the flight is overbooked one less person will get bumped which is a good thing.

Bear in mind that if you got a return ticket (unlikely if easyjet which sell one ways only) the return portion will automatically be cancelled.

In theory you can claim the tax back if you don't travel but no idea how you actually do this.

I've always just been refunded my tax without asking.

You need to speak to the travel insurers - they will need you to minimise the loss.
