Children want to go on a plane. Advice on where?

Children want to go on a plane for the experience.
Starting point would be Bristol or East Midlands. Probably a long weekend.

Suggestions please on places to fly which would be good for 7 years old please. I really don't care, the flight is really the whole point of this, however staying for a night or two somewhere interesting would be good. Probably next spring.

Dublin. Very cheap flights. bus stop outside airport doors into centre. Get the tour bus family ticket in advance. My 5 and 7 year old loved having a rest on the bus. Go to the giants park and the national history museum. Very close together.

Eurodisney? Spain for the beach? Skiing?

What are your kids into?

Alternatively take them to the isles of Scilly by helicopter. Might scare them off flying for life!

Countdukula, that sounds great, thanks. We did wonder about Dublin but husband said he only knew it for drinking!

Belfast would be good too! It's a short flight and then you could have a bus tour or go to HMS Caroline and W5 (a hands-on science centre) in the Titanic Quarter. I wouldn't bother with the Titanic museum for young children.
The Ulster Museum is free and in the Botanic gardens so you can have a run about there.
It's a good size for 1 or 2 nights and you don't need to worry about the Euro exchange rate. Saying that, I was taken to Jersey for my first flight at a similar age and had a great trip!

Where ever's cheapest - paid 30.00 return to belfast from liverpool last week.

we did titanic - very good and the women's rugby world cup.

Isle of man
dublin
glasgow
paris
amsterdam
jersey

just look for ryanair, flybe or easyjet fligts

make sure you all have passports for photo id

Belfast is great for kids and flights are cheap, we took our youngest there for his first flight just to see how he'd be before booking somewhere further afield.

PovertyJetset · 31/08/2017 15:04

Amsterdam is good for kids.

timeistight · 31/08/2017 15:06

Another vote for Belfast.

Crumbs1 · 31/08/2017 15:06

Our children's first flight was a weekend in Dublin. Worked well for us.
Otherwise Amsterdam, Belfast, Edinburgh, Biarritz, Brussels.

We've just had a long weekend at centerparcs near Eindhoven flew from Manchester 1 hr flight 20 minute drive to park.

Isle of Man.
Anywhere in Scotland.
Ditto Ireland.

imokit · 31/08/2017 22:03

Go anywhere you want. 7 year olds can do long haul and long haul with person tv screens and the chance to watch movies is more of a proper flying experience than shorter hops.

Thanks all, some great food for thought and am researching all those places. X

Jersey

Plenty to do when there - and it's such a small island it's all nearby.

You can stay in a yurt in Durrell Zoo if that's your sort of thing.

FairyPenguin · 01/09/2017 22:29

I know you said probably Spring but how about taking them in December to one of the Christmas Market cities? We've been to Cologne and Berlin - great for a weekend.

Goshthatwentwell · 04/09/2017 19:34

For a plane trip I'd take them while it was still light outside( so maybe not winter) with a good view.
Agree with Jersey although Rome is fab as you fly over the Alps and dead easy to do when you get there. Barcelona and Nice both also have airports near the sea too which is lovely.
I wouldn't go anywhere cold as so much more packing/ weight for a day or two.
