You arent allowed liquids in hand bags. They might let you have one lot for flight, but not before you have drank some infront of them! Baby milk and jars are allowed in suitcase, but remember you get no weight allowage for children under 2 years old

You are allowed liquids in hand luggage - see the link - its just very restricted.

NannyL · 01/04/2007 17:10

so long as your boiled water is in a babies bottle of child cup it should be fine

i flew a couple of weeks ago from gatwick with a 4 year old...

she had her 'kids to go' cups and daddy sampled them and we could take them on the plane without a problem.

she only had water in them.

You can have more than the 100ml of liquid if it's baby's water in a cup and you're prepared to taste it. Unopened baby food seemed to be Ok when I went to SPain too, you just had to put it in the clear bag they gave you.

lisad123 · 01/04/2007 20:22

strange we flew 2 weeks ago, and were not allowed any liquid at all.

was your liquid in children / babies bottles / cups though?

so long as it is in an obviously baby / young childs cup you are allowed to take it as long as you sample it 1st

I guess i could put a small bottle of water in each of our bags. (My older ones can get a drink onboard). My 2 and 6 year old are allowed hand luggage though aren't they? They each have a trolley case full of books ect.

You should be. I had to drink DDs babycup of water and that was bigger than the 100ml limit. You can buy bottled water airside if you have problems though. Evian is best. If your other children have seats, they have hand luggage but you still can't put drinks in them. Liquids and pastes have to go in their teeny tiny clear plastic bag and carried seperately.

bristols · 02/04/2007 19:05

I flew a couple of weeks ago and took the water in the bottle and the formula separately. No problems at all. Had to taste the water in front of them. I don't think there are any restrictions on what you put in the suitcase in the way of baby food etc. I took a tub of formula and some jars (in the bad mummy club with you) and it was fine.

You won't be able to take any more than 100mls of water for yourselves. HTH

Some airports/countries seem to have slightly different ideas about taking liquid onto planes, e.g. I flew out of Amsterdam in January and bought a standard bottle of water after checking in to drink on the plane which was taken off me and I hadn't even broken the seal.

Flew in March from Venice and had no problems, my bottled water was in my hand and they waved me through.

CHECK the website for the airport you are flying from for their latest info.

Remember you will be able to buy more water airside, at a cost of course.

fionap19 · 22/04/2007 03:05

Depends on the airline youre flying with. Most restrict the amount and some ban all liquids! You are usually allowed 100 ml of liquid and it has to be in the clear bag so they can see it. they also can get funny about anything like lipstick, makeup crayons...felt tips! anything with liquiid in them....
Once you are through the security system you can buy more liquids...drinks for instance. You could take cean bottles with your milk formula and then ask for boiled water in a cafe, or whatever? Im sure they would help. Its so difficult with little wones normally and now its harder!
Yes your other kids do have hand luggage allowance.
I travelled with three kids 3 days ago....
it was all fine and mush smoother than I worried it would be!

Good luck!

HI
I am due to fly with MOnarch from manchester in a few weeks to portugal and am terrified re what to do for feeds for my 4 month old as I imagine will need a bottle feed at the airport, one at take off and landing (to stop ears popping) and then a reserve one in case of delay or at the arrival airport.

I don't know what to do as have been told can only take water in 100ml bottles and have never seen a 100ml feeding bottle.

ANy advice would be great as what to do with bottles, water and powder etc.

HELP!!!!

Lemmiwinks · 26/04/2007 16:55

jasper01, from 6 Nov 2006 they put in place slightly more relaxed rules regarding what you can take on board and this includes infant formula. This means that you are allowed to travel throughout the European Union with enough infant formula or breast milk for the duration of the journey and this also applies to flight to and from the USA. Just make sure you put all the formula packets or containers in a clear plastic bag and then when you go through security you will see signs now that tell you to take out liquids from your handbag to show them separately. They no longer ask you to taste test, luckily, so no worries anout opening sealed formula. Hope this helps!

jasper01 · 27/04/2007 08:48

Thank you
That helps a lot. SO do you think it would be best to take cartons of formula as opposed to powder and the water seperate?
Does it not matter now then that the cartons exceed 100ml?

THank you!!

Lemmiwinks · 27/04/2007 13:07

You're welcome! I would personally take the cartons of ready made formula and for two reasons. One, it is less fussy then bringing a packet of formula and then water as well, and two because you are much less likely to have any problems with a security person on a powertrip and have to explain to them that the water is boiled for the baby formula. The last point is probably just me being paranoid since the guidlines do say "baby formula that is required during the whole journey" so I can't imagine water to make up the bottle is not included in this but you know how these things are, it's always best to keep it simple.

The fact that the cartons exceed 100 ml should make no difference since baby formula, as well as medication that is required during the whole journey and special dietary requirements that you need during the whole journey are exempt from the 100 ml restricions. It's very confusing all this, they keep changing the rules and it makes travelling a nitemare these days! Don't worry though, I'm sure it will all be fine since these are the most recent updates to these rules.

Lemmiwinks · 27/04/2007 13:20

Oh, one more thing, apparently you should make sure the infant formula is put in a separate clear sealed bag from your other liquids that are anyway allowed so long as they are less than 100 ml, like your hand lotion or lipgloss. Who knows why, but that's what they say! By the way, how old is your baby? I was just thinking that you could, if you are still worried, take the packets of formula and then buy Evian water once you are past security (which you are allowed to do, apparently the water past security is "safe"!) to make up the formula if your baby isn't newborn and the need for the water to be sterilised is not as necessary. Just a thought!
