does it count as part of the baggage allowance? Just weighed our travel cot and its 10kgs!! That's DS entire travel allowance used up in one go!!!

Don't know the answer (although suspect it's part of his allowance), but you can get travel cots that weigh 2.5-3kg, so might be worth seeing if you have a friend with one that you can borrow. Ours is the Nomad one, which I think is 2.7kg.

Depends on the airline, I'd phone to check. I know a couple take them for free but can't remember which ones!

I have never taken a travel cot, but I have taken a car seat - it DID count as part of our allowance. I imagine that it is the same for cots. Can you borrow/hire one where you are going?

Rantum · 31/03/2007 21:26

That was with BA

again depends if you are on a package holiday then you might be able to ask the tour op. we went to tunisia last yr and panaramoma holidays said yes we could take it free . however we are going to oz in 3 weeks with singapore airways and they said no unless we agreed that it was part of luggege allow
hope it helps

Have asked SIL to buy a travel cot from there...she's going to ring us tmw by midday and tell us if she's had any luck or not, if so, we will just take the matress and leave the cot at home...was reluctant to hire/borrow one because of second hand matress risk etc, besides, not sure they have all the coolmax stuff over there but at least I know my travel cot matress is coolmax one etc...my head hurts from thinking of too much to do and DH is in a strop over all the luggage but I've hardly taken any clothes (am too fat post baby for most of my old ones! lol!!!)..he's lucky he's not married to someone who takes a suitcase just for hair and make up stuff!! rant rant!!

Thanks - I feel the same as you. DS needs comfort. Got the bloody relatives saying oh just put him in the bed between you but he's a little person and he deserves his comfort, continuity and his own space!

Samsonite do 2 really like travel cots depending on age - the biggest is 3kgs.

If you'd feel happier taking your own then look into how much they would charge you if you exceeded your allowance. Generally, if you book and pay for the extra weight ahead of time it is cheaper (and far less stress) then dealing with it at the airport. Surely it couldn't be any more expensive than SIL buying a whole new cot and you taking your mattress with you anyway?
