Flying in the 3rd trimester

Hi everyone

I'm after a bit of advice flying in the 3rd trimester. I have to fly to South Africa next weekend and will be 32weeks pregnant and I will fly back when I'm 34 weeks. Spoken to my midwife and she is happy for me to fly (and will give me a fit to fly letter) and I've found travel insurance so that's sorted.
I was wondering if anyone had experience flying at this stage in the pregnancy and could give me some guidance on who are the best airlines to fly with? Also any tips on dealing with a long haul flight this far along?

Thanks in advance

Drink lots, move as much as possible (get an aisle seat). Hope you don't sit behind a full recliner.

Buy compression socks and get an aisle seat.

Thanks everyone. Can anyone recommend an airline? At the moment considering flying with virgin.

I flew at 30 weeks on a longhaul and then at 32 weeks on a domestic 5 hour flight. I would say a back pillow is essential, ask fprfor/book a seat that has no one in front, bring your own drink bottle. I didn't use compression clothing but some people swear by it. Try and sleep and get some rest. Good luck! :)

I flew back from Singapore to London with Swiss Air at 32 weeks. I'd pay for as much extra space as you can afford. It really makes a difference. Especially in relation to the number of people going to the loo etc.

I flew out with Singapore airlines in Premium economy the extra space was fantastic umfortunately the loos were in economy so you always had to join a queue. We flew back Swiss Air business (offloaded by singapore) and I was very thankful to have less people in the loo queue.

On the way out I vomited constantly from descent until we landed so would recommend taking wipes and tooth brush and perfume in your hand luggage.

Other than that enjoy

Yes to the compression tights. I flew norwegian to scandinavia ie not long flight in early pregnancy without compression socks and ended up with very swollen ankles.

Please don't spray perfume around, you'll make others vomit too!

People are allowed to recline, planes are designed that way. Also check the full coverage of the insurance - if the baby arrives early are you covered with all expenses until you can return?

Thanks everyone. I've spoken to my midwife and I'm booking with virgin today. Now I am trying to get myself upgraded 😉

Anyone have a brand of compression socks they can recommend?

The perfumes not for spraying around, just more yourself. If you end like I was stuck in the same clothes hotel room not ready yet perfume is a god send.

I just used whatever they had in boots. I put mine on up to the ankle at home and then oulled them up before the flighy. Easier than trying to wrestle them on in an airplane toilet with bump.

Oulled - pulled

I just bought my compression socks from Boots. It is worth paying for extra legroom seats BTW.

Thanks. Bought socks and flying Thursday back in 10 days
