All inclusive-is this a good price?

Would appreciate some advice for those of you who have done an all inclusive holiday before!
Never been that keen on AL but seems like a good option with young children; wanting to go somewhere for a week in the late spring and really like the look of the Ikos Olivia in Greece

Best price I've found inc flights is coming in at £2.5k for the 4 of us for 7 nights-feels like a ton of money but is this in fact quite good or should I continue to shop around/find a cheaper resort? The hotel looks to be a decent standard and I'm really not keen to spend a week eating beige buffet food (which is all I seem to hear/read about when people talk of AL!!)

Any thoughts welcomed!

That seems pretty reasonable for Greece to me. You could get cheaper in the canaries or Spain but not much cheaper for Greece.

TheFairyCaravan · 21/08/2017 16:25

You could get cheaper for Greece but it depends on what you want, tbh and if you are tied to school holidays or not.

When I was looking at holidays at the beginning of the year for September there were a lot in Greece coming out between £600-£800 for 14 nights but DH wouldn't let me book it because I was due surgery.

We've had some bargains, tbf, because we can go last minute and don't have to take our children. We've paid £700 each for 11 nights in Menorca in September.

Looks like a stunning hotel. I just priced it up for us with Jet2 in July and it came to over £8000.
That's the difference with older DC and school holidaysShock

Stickaforkinimdone · 21/08/2017 16:31

Thanks for the replies-We'd go outside of school holidays and I did look at one of the Iberostar hotels in Tenerife; the only thing that put me off is the flight time-really don't fancy 4-5 hours with a toddler and a 6 month old so Greece seemed like a happy medium!

Chelseahotel it looks lovely doesn't it?! School holidays just would not be an option due to the price-when I priced up going in half term week it was an additional 1.5k

We went to the Ikos Oceania and it was just over 3k for 3 of us all inclusive over May half term. You've got a good deal!
We have already booked up again for next year.

The Oceania was really really lovely and head that the Olivia is too.

We booked indirect flights which bought the price down a bit

sm40 · 21/08/2017 16:53

Sounds a good price. If it's anything like Sani (which owns it I believe) it will be lovely! We booked indirect flights(1k) over may half term last year as direct ones were 2k. Then hotel was another 2k. Then food/drink on top!!However if you have small kids you may not want to go via Germany!!
So sounds a good deal and enjoy term time holidays whilst you can!!!

Stickaforkinimdone I've stayed in a few AI places and would normally avoid them in Greece because they tend not to be very good and I love eating out. However that really does look good, and I'd go like a shot if I could get it for £2.5k Envy

tabbycatbythesea · 21/08/2017 16:55

I've got a 2 week break in Crete for 7 of us, school holidays, AI, 5 star resort for £3.5k....

TinyTumble · 21/08/2017 17:02

I was there last week. Believe me we paid more than £2.5k for 2 adults and 2 DC at peak holiday time!! But price-wise it actually compares favourably to booking flights + accommodation + eating out. It is genuinely all-inclusive. We used BA holidays which were the cheapest; have heard others say the same. It's a beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, and the food is about as far from bland beige buffets as you can get (& I hate AI normally but with small DC it's easier). I say go for it.

Is the sand gritty there, it looks it in pictures

2014newme · 22/08/2017 10:24

I'm asking as I'm thinking of booking myself

ElfEars · 22/08/2017 10:26

I haven't been to the Ikos Olivia yet but I have heard a lot about it. It has won awards as the best all inclusive hotel in Europe so I don't think you can compare to other hotels. The price sounds reasonable to me. If you would like something a little cheaper Kos has some nice all inclusive hotels. I'm not sure how they would compare to the Olivia though.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 22/08/2017 10:27

That's a great price for that hotel. Yes you can get cheaper but but if that standard.

TinyTumble · 22/08/2017 18:17

2014newme - definitely a bit gritty, though that didn't seem to bother the children much and there was certainly quite a lot of sandcastle building going on. Ours generally preferred the pools though...

Queenofthedrivensnow · 23/08/2017 21:25

That's a good price for AL I have always paid around that for like for like

elizabethcharlotte · 23/08/2017 22:05

Tabbycatbythesea. That's an amazing price!! Where are you going?
