self catering resorts in Italy pleae

Can any of you suggest a resort based on the following requirements for myself, DH and DD (will be 21 months) for a week at the beginning of July:

  1. Must be in Italy
  2. Self catering villa/appartment
  3. Near beach (driving or walking distance)
  4. Based in a town or village with restaurants/cafes in walking distance
  5. Pool would be a bonus
  6. No more than 2 hours from the nearest airport.

Fussy? Moi! Never.

We are happy to organise flights/accomodation ourselves. I just need to narrow our search down to a particular resort. I am thinking of St Ives in Italy (if such a thing exists!!)

Thanks

How about a mobile home? We stayed in Garden Paradiso (Keycamp) last year. On the beach, nice restaurant onsite and lovely one across the road. A couple of minutes walk from village. Swimming pools and childrens play areas etc. 30 minutes from Venice. We flew into Treviso which was about 40 minutes drive, I think Marco Polo might be closer. Within driving distance of Verona and Lake Garda.

Sounds interesting. At the risk of sounding like a total snob are these places similar to some holiday parks here IFYKWIM. IE. Night entertainment, etc. Its just not my scene thats all.

They do have all that cheesy night entertainment but we avoided it. Ds was too young anyway, he was 22 months. I would really recommend it we had a lovely time, we cooked lovely simple food and ate outside most nights. It was very good value too, under £1k for all 3 of us inlcuding flights and car hire for 11 nights.

I am rapidly becoming converted to the idea. One more question, was is noisey. We went camping once and it was just a nightmare for noise. Really put us off all things holiday park/ camping related. I am making some really uptight. Its just DH enjoys the finer things in life but doesnt have the wallet to match

meant to say making us seem really uptight

No it wasn't noisy. The italians take their siesta time quite seriously. It is a little strange but between 1-3 p.m. and after 11.00p.m they announce that there must be "maximum silence" and everything stops.

Before ds I was a bit sniffy towards holiday parks and would not have considered keycamps but I can honestly say it was lovely, really nice location and handy having things like childrens play areas close by, dh would take ds off to the park or beach whilst I was preparing lunch. There was also a fab fruit & veg stall on site with the best tomatoes I have ever tasted. I want to go back!!

I'm going self-catering in a town called Pietra Ligure which is in the Liguria region (just down the road from the South of France, that bit of Italy!) on 21st April so if you can wait that long I can tell you what it's like!

Have a look at www.agriturismo.com

Alternative - not quite beach but at Lake Garda. It's just a bunch of really nice apartments very near the lake and i would imagine lots to do as train away to venice, verona etc etc.
we are staying here....

wonderful lake garda!

Balancing Act your nearest station is Desenzano del Garda its about 20 mins away. Trains to Verona pretty regular Venice about every 1hr30 I think. They look really lovely .Have a good Holiday

balancingact · 03/04/2007 14:22

Rosa5, thanks v. much! was very pleased to have found this place as i am all for self catering as my DCs will go crazy in a hotel room (aged 3 1/2 and 1). Hopefully, we've discovered a place we'd happily come back to again and again!

We went to Marina di Pietrasants last year. (near Viareggio, Tuscany coast)

Had a villa, cylced to the beach everyday, quite a modern resort but 2km from old town with lovely piazza, where we went every evening.

Half hour from Pisa airport.

I can find name of tour operaartor if you're interested.

lapsedrunner · 03/04/2007 18:57

balancingact I've added that link to my favourites list, looks great.

BirdyArms · 03/04/2007 21:32

Balancing act - your holiday looks fabulous, am seriously thinking of booking the same! Thanks very much for the link!

Skribble · 03/04/2007 21:46

Balancing act is that price the nightly rate or the weekly rate for the apartment?

Skribble · 03/04/2007 21:47

Ah I see it now it is per day, not bad considering I am paying for E65 for a glorified caravan per night.

balancingact · 04/04/2007 07:15

Thanks everyone!
A friend of mine is having her wedding in gardone (where these apartments are) so we feel v. lucky that we have a reason to "discover" this place. I hope it's as good as it looks - i really like the facilities for the kids as well....

gatleygirl · 24/09/2007 20:47
