I flew 2 flights today. All of us in our row were reading Kindles. On both flights. This was within EU.. so not true. Within EU.
am not an authority on eg US.

wonkylegs · 17/08/2017 19:04

Looks like kindles just fall foul - www.wired.co.uk/article/uk-laptop-ban-flights-explained

BenLui · 17/08/2017 19:04

I've flown four times over the last 8 weeks with my Kindle each time.

BizzyFizzy · 17/08/2017 19:04

I had no problems with my Kindle to and from the US last month.

malovitt · 17/08/2017 19:05

No Kindles or iPads allowed on my flight from Turkey to the UK a couple of weeks ago.
They had to go in the hold.

wonkylegs · 17/08/2017 19:05

It only applies to certain routes that's why some people will be affected and others won't

BenLui · 17/08/2017 19:07

Ah, according to wonky it's just in specific routes and specific airlines. You'll need to buy some books I'm afraid.

MadisonAvenue · 17/08/2017 19:07

It all depends where you're going on holiday.
I've found this government advice saying that you can't take them on hand baggage if you're flying back from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

It states that you can take them but they must be placed in checked in luggage which goes in the hold. The only solution if you need to read is to take a book.

RedSandYellowSand · 17/08/2017 19:09

Which route are you flying? A lot of the US electronics bans have been removed. I don't know about UK flights. It's only into the UK max, so only one flight you might be restricted for.

ErnesttheBavarian · 17/08/2017 19:09

Where are you flying to/from?

Viviene · 17/08/2017 20:34

Fuck no, I'm off to the West Coast tomorrow, does it affect EU /US routes?

RedSandYellowSand · 18/08/2017 06:42

No. Only middle east (specific list) to UK now, i think. Im pretty sure the Middle east to US is all removed. Not convinced by Middle East to UK stopped or not.

MardAsSnails · 18/08/2017 06:53

redSand emirates and Etihad have had their ban lifted. Not sure about their flights originating in the list of countries above and connecting to the U.K., but direct from UAE doesn't have an issue (I'm posting this from my laptop midair, DXB-LGW)

RedSandYellowSand · 18/08/2017 06:57

Didn't think UAE was ever on the UK list??? Thought Saudi, Turkey, and some others. Maybe Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia???? UAE was on the USA list. Enjoy your break in UK, and getting out of the heat. I've just got back to the sand.....

OddBoots · 18/08/2017 07:25

Could you use the kindle app on your phone?

charliebear78 · 18/08/2017 16:09

Thanks for the Info.
I am flying to Turkey-so will be ok on the way there.
Got some books out from the library for on the way back!

U.K. wasn't - but connecting from Jordan definitely was. Had some very upset people in front of me having to repackage devices into a case at check in for an onwards to London with Emirates.

Unfortunately the trip is for an expats worst nightmare, but the flight itself wasn't too bad.

OP kindle app on your phone would work well if you're tight in luggage space. And remember to make sure you've got something in your case to protect your kindle on the way back

So sorry Mard Flowers
