Where do you park at Gatwick ?

Going for a weeks break in mid sept and will be staying at the Premier Inn the night before our flight so driving etc as Toddler and me being pregnant means my lugging of luggage is limited.

Where have you parked? The good, bad and extortionate ?

We did valet parking and dropped the car off before going to our hotel. It meant we paid for an extra night's parking but it was worth it. Cost around £100 for 10 days.

We've done parking opposite the entrance (sorry, can't remember what it's called), valet parking and the parking in a field and catching the bus thing.

Parking opposite the entrance was great, we were skiing so had tonnes of stuff and we were on our way within 15 minutes of collecting our luggage.

Didn't like the field and bus thing. Took ages and some of the field companies have iffy records (watchdog style). Bus will also be a pain with toddler now.

Since we've had dd we have always done valet parking. Usually offers on quidco for this, circa £75. However, do works abroad a lot and sometimes parking opposite can be cheaper depending on quidco deals at the time. Definitely worth it.

The extortionate- we've recently done Gatwick Hilton with long stay parking (for a 6am flight with 2 dcs) - cost £280, no food included.

Worth it as was 2mins walk to the terminal, at 3.15am 😴

bonjovigirl · 17/08/2017 14:28

Agree, with kids we almost always use the "Meet and Greet" or valet parking. Would definitely recommend.

HemanOrSheRa · 17/08/2017 14:30

We did a package with valet parking in the airport car park opposite the entrance and a nights stay at the BLOC hotel inside the airport. It was really easy. It was a bit pricey but we had a early flight so it was worth it.

Ollycat · 17/08/2017 14:33

We always do either valet parking or park right at the entrance (like valet parking but not)

DandelionAndBedrock · 17/08/2017 14:34

Can't help with parking but check to see if your flight lets you do day before bag drop. DP and I did it with (I think) Thomas Cook and it was so much better in the morning. We had overnight stuff in hand luggage bags and were able to check our big suitcases in so the next morning you just go straight through to security. If you're there for the hotel you might as well do it if available, assuming toddler doesn't have too much overnight stuff.

We've used Cophall a few times and it's been really good. Much cheaper than any of the on-site carparks and very good service and safe.

Stuckinstressville · 17/08/2017 16:17

Thanks all- will investigate your recs!

Mil just booked us to the premier inn being helpful and all- only turns out we are flying from the other terminal! Hahah!

One less thing for me to book I guess....

There's a constant high line train between the two terminal . The kids will love it.
I book the official car park - short stay is right opposite. I use TopCashBack to claim a few pennies back.
Long stay is a pain. Buses are frequent but often packed and stressful waiting in the way back.
Not a fan of valet as I find it a faff but your best bet if short stay isn't an option.

BizzyFizzy · 17/08/2017 19:06

We usually park in the airport long-term.

skyzumarubble · 17/08/2017 19:10

Meet and greet or valet - wouldn't go back now.

skyzumarubble · 17/08/2017 19:11

As in wouldn't go back to long stay etc - that didn't make much sense!

macaronip1e · 17/08/2017 19:20

the premier inn normally has a deal where you can park there....though might be too late if already booked?!

theaveragewife · 17/08/2017 19:23

Hilton & valet with Maple Manor, great package and never had a problem with them!

fudgefeet · 17/08/2017 19:26

We use cophall too, really efficient and a good price. Was about £78 for the week and they picked is up at a silly time in the morning within 5 mins of collecting our bags.

PerfectlyPooPoo · 17/08/2017 19:26

We fly out of Gatwick around about 5 times a year for the last 7 years and we've only driven once when there was a train strike.

I'm sure for some driving is the best option but when I pointed out to a friend it was a 25 min train instead of over an hour to drive, park and pay she admitted it never occurred to her not to drive.

Stuckinstressville · 17/08/2017 20:13

Perfectly we have never driven but I am sort of on a bit of bed rest so cannot take the train . Taxis keep turning up without car seats and cost £110 return so have to drive this time.

We live really close to Gatwick and often see the cophall buses going back and forth. Their carparking looks secure and it's in a good location
