Looking to book for end of May 2018 for myseld DH and dd who will be 6. Would like a decent beach, somewhere to explore and although you can't guaruntee it the hottest island well get for that time of year. Weve been going round in circles and now getting total holiday blindness.

So what do you good mumsnetters recommend?

We went to Crete for two weeks in two different locations. Pebbly beaches and the sea was very deep very quickly so we spent most days by the pool. We went in August and it was far too hot to travel anywhere so we didn't visit anything. We had a fantastic time getting fat by the pool.

Rhodes is really lovely. There are lots of fabulous sandy beaches, safe for bathing. Lindos is really nice and the Memories hotel is right on the beach, although up the road from Lindos town. Rhodes town is great with bars, cafes and nice shops. You can do a boat trip from there. I've been to Rhodes four times and would go again.

Crete has sandy beaches as well. We have been twice at that time of year and really recommend it.

Lindos mentioned above has an acropolis too, remains of a greek temple and of a medieval fort which is great to explore and has gorgeous views.

Went to Crete last April, and it was gorgeous. Flew into Hania, sometimes called chania, and stayed in air b an b a few miles down coast. , everything is 5 mins from beach, as only the strip off the main road is developed. Beach is sandy and good, sea great. Local bus goes into hania every few minutes, and it is so beautiful, with miles of gorgeous shady alley ways, covered in planted balconies, and the ubiquitous Greek cats everywhere. Most of it is the old town, perfect for wandering.
We hired a car for a day to go into the mountains, but could easily have done without.
Took a Rough Guide, which helped, but all Greek people seem friendly andrelaxed about handing out local knowledge.
Pm me if you have any Qs
