Rude to email and ask for a room with a pool view

As above really. I've never thought about asking before, but saw that someone had on a review, request was granted and no additional cost. We've booked a package holiday. Is it rude to ask?

Not rude at all.
Just email and ask.

Greycat11 · 15/08/2017 06:32

Not rude at all to make the request. If you don't ask you don't get.
Just don't raise your hopes too much to avoid disappointment.
I emailed hotel well in advance asking for sea view, and although had no reply, pretty much assumed we would get one and we didn't.
If you email and get no reply, I'd phone to follow it up that's what I'll do next time.

You might find that specific views have additional costs in which case you are unlikely to get it unless you have paid in that bracket. If it's a flat fee then nothing to lose by asking and you will probably get it.

It's not rude to email at all.

Check the hotels website and send if there's a charge/supplement.

I've always emailed hotels direct and asked for a room away from the entertainment as my ds has asd and is noise sensitive.

daffodilbrain · 15/08/2017 08:16

It's pretty common but you may have to pay a premium

I politely emailed a very posh hotel asking if we could have a room in a certain part of the hotel which also had a certain feature in the room. I knew full well rooms with that combination were actually a higher grade so was chancing it.

Duly got an equally polite reply saying as much, and didn't think anything more of it.

We pitch up and lo and behold...the higher grade room! It was amazing!

I had stayed there twice before, and regularly like and comment on posts by the hotel (non-chain/independent) on Facebook too. I don't know if that had any bearing whatsoever but it sure can't hurt, so maybe try that as well!

I emailed the hotel we were staying at this year to make a few requests based on trip advisor advice. We wanted a room away from the noisy lifts and on the Portaventura side of the hotel so we could see the park from our room, see the fireworks at night and avoid the entertainment noise if we wanted peace.

Their reply said they'd made a note of the requests. And when we checked in they'd given us what we'd asked for.

It's certainly not rude, unless you are planning to address your email to 'Dear Fuckface' !
Well worth asking, hotels get these requests every day, so you never know!

ShotsFired · 15/08/2017 09:47

@DearTeddyRobinson It's certainly not rude, unless you are planning to address your email to 'Dear Fuckface' !

Going to have to be very careful addressing all my emails today because I REALLY want to start one "Dear Fuckface"! GrinGrinGrin

DearTeddyRobinson · 15/08/2017 11:16

@ShotsFired if you were a dedicated MN-er, it would be 'Dear Cunty Chops', surely!

If you don't ask you don't get. The worst that can happen is they say no.

soundsgreektome · 15/08/2017 18:27

I so was going to address Dear Fuckface, thank god I asked. Right. I'm emailing them!

They will try their best to accommodate our request.
