Anyone used a back pack child carrier on holiday and at the airport?

not sure whether to get one or use the buggy?, does it count as a bag for hand luggage?

we used one but it was some years ago. we took it up the steps of the plane and they took it away and brought it back as we got off. we hired a buggy from thompsons on holiday. a friend tho bought a really cheap buggy second hand and left it at the holiday place (on purpose) as it was cheaper than hiring. we found it really useful to have the back carrier - as it was a hilly place!

Having had both and travelled with both - would say take the buggy - easier for sleeping, carrying stuff etc - they don;t count buggy as hand luggage but may do for backpack - depends on your airline. also you will have to take if off and empty it all out at security.

Going anywhere nice? If its hot and sunny will be very [

ooooohhh nice! Would take a pushchair on a beach holiday - they get totally knackered and it means you can go out to dinner while they sleep in the pushchair - you could take both and check the buggy in at check in. Buggies and sand don;t mix well! Would recommend taking some kind of small beach tent too.

We used one years ago, they are quite good as an extra but too long in it and dd got hot and bothered and a bit sore down below especially with a nappy on. Not too comfy to snooze in.

I use a soft back carrier called Ergo - it's as bulky as a babybjorn (i.e. no metal frame) so i can keep it in the pushchair basket and it's suitable for children up to 3 years old (I've even carried my 3.5 year old in it comfortably). I take the pushchair with me too, but at the airport I pop DD2 on my back with the carrier and hand over the pushchair for them to put it in the hold. Do a search for Ergo baby carrier in google and you'll see what it looks like.

Carriers: great for walks on hilly or rocky terrain, mine would fall asleep on the way. Buggies I have found better if they are in there for longer though - small children will sleep even if you park them, and they won't get as hot as they do in a carrier.

Have taken both on planes, and have always been able to get them as far as the gate (where they then store them and get them out at gate at the other end).

Hope you'll have a good break!!
