If we loved Connemara where else in Ireland would we like?

Just got back from an amazing holiday in Galway near the Connemara national park. Already thinking about returning but would love to stop somewhere else too. We have done NI including Belfast and the Antrim coast a lot but just discovering Ireland.

The things we loved about Connemara were walks, wildlife, seafood, beaches and boat trips, shops and galleries in Clifden, amazing scenery.

Where else should we try? Looking for holiday cottage for a week. We have 2 ds who beset year will be 7 and 4.

Not at all, we stayed in a house near letterfrack which was a good base, it was a massive house as we were a party of 12.

At the national park visitor centre there was a choice of routes for walks and we did the middle one of about 3k which was perfect as our youngest is only 3.

Some of our party hired bikes in Clifden and cycled on the "bog road" to Roundstone. Amazing beaches along there including once called Dogs Bay- gorgeous.

Also a great beach at Omey Island near Clifden- just make sure you check the tide times as we saw someone's car get ruined because they were too late in attempting to cross the causeway....more nice beaches up by tullycross.

Also visited Kylemore Abbey and gardens- great walks around the gardens- so beautiful

Thank you! If you make to West Cork we loved Sherkin Island, Mizen Head, Barley Cove beach, Bantry Bay and House and we had a good day in Cork City too.

Auchan where would you recommend for possible sightings of whales & dolphins? I regularly visit your part of West Cork... I know you can do boat trips but I am not keen on being out on boats

Auchan · 14/08/2017 11:51

There are loads of spots. Galley Head which has a blow hole! Union Hall, Owenahincha, Toe Head - I've seen whales and dolphins from all of these vistas. Union Hall tends to be more dolphins as it's a bay.

Thanks! I've seen seals at Owenahincha. Will check out the other places.

Also Mizen Head! I forgot to add that. Take a walk out over the bridge to the cliffs.

I'd second Clare but not based in Ennis, horrible place. Go further north, Milton Malby on the coast maybe, or the in the Burren.

Might be easier to tell the OP where is NOT worth visiting, ha ha. Just goes to show how wonderful Ireland and Northern Ireland are.
