Lights stay on inside train when you are in the tunnel. Haven't been on for years mind, but if you are taking the car then you stay in the car for the crossing, and if you are foot passengers then you have a seat like a normal train. I haven't done that with dcs, but have been on a ferry and that's ok too - quite a bit to amuse them - and not too long a crossing either. If up to me I would prob look at crossing times for tunnel for ferry and see what suits you best. HTH. BTW you aren't mad!!

You are not taking a car? Take the train into London, catch the Eurostar from Waterloo straight to Paris.\link{ www.eurostar.com/dynamic/_SvBoExpressBookingTerm?_TMS=1175171450005&_DLG=SvBoExpressBookingTerm&_LANG=UK&_AGENCY=ESTAR&CID=PPCuk&lang=UK&country=UK&VT=EB\eurostar}

sorry - eurostar

If it was me without a car I would go for eurotunnel rather than a ferry - I think it would be quicker and more comfortable, plus less hassle as you can go straight from London to Paris without changing trains. The tunnel bit just feels like you are in a normal train going through a tunnel - just lasts for about 20 - 25 mins.

just to clarify - Eurostar is the passenger train direct from Waterloo/Ashford to Paris.
Eurotunnel goes Folkestone to Calais, you take your car, like you would on a ferry.
