Restaurant Suggestions for Bologna

We will be in Bologna for a few days - DH and me, two kids (7 and 4) and my MIL. While I imagine we can't go far wrong about food in Bologna, it probably would be nice to reserve a dinner or two to minimise stress of finding somewhere to eat last minute. Does anyone has any recommendations of reasonably priced family restaurant?

Oh it's fab! Honestly though, especially if you're eating early-ish there's no need to reserve. We just wandered about and ate where we fancied and I can't even remember any names!

All the bars do aperitivi too, so if you really can't find anywhere, pop into a bar for a snack (although some of them do it more as a buffet and charge especially on a Saturday). We ate really well.

Thanks Lonny! How does the bar apertitivi works? Are the snacks normally displayed or just arrive with drinks? Am on a diet now in anticipation of the trip and feel so hungry with this talk of food!

It's a bit of a mix. On the first night a snack appeared with every drink, free. The second night we were in a more studenty bit and there was a buffet in two of the pubs. I think it was around 8euro each for that - we didn't necessarily feel it was worth it but then we only went up once as we were eating elsewhere and others were going up more often. I think something got lost in translation in that one though Grin

It's a lovely city. We had a nice meal at Buca Manzoni which we really enjoyed and you can book in advance. The best thing about Bologna was the 'food street', full of beautiful shops heaving with hams and cheeses. Sit outside and watch the hussle and bussle with a glass of wine and a beautiful plate of hams and cheese Smile

Visit Corpus Domini church to see the saint......it's one of the oddest experiences EVER! TripAdvisor tells you more.....

Thank you banana I will look up the restaurant and the church! Off to Google now.......

And thanks Lonny I guess I just have to see what I get, I don't speak a word of Italian and probably will be a bit too shy to ask!

I was just going to mention the food street. I'm the worlds biggest cheese/ham fan, but by day three I couldn't eat any more! There's also a really nice wine shop on the corner of the square where you can sit in and buy a bottle at shop prices. They do lovely tapas too (as well as ham and cheese!)

Rick Stein did a series and covered restaurants in Bologna in one episode. The summary is here - www.rickstein.com/blog/rick-steins-long-weekends-episode-5-bologna/

The episode itself might still be available on catch up!
