We were on a shoestring when we were in NY, so not sure if the following would be relevent or not. We wanted to get close to the statue of liberty, (it wasn't open to the public) when we were there), we did this by getting the free Staten Island ferry, rather than paid boat trip. Another must do was going up the Empire State building. We went up a little before sundown so we saw the views in daylight and in the dark. We got half price tickets for a broadway show, which we felt we just had to do. There's something for everyone in Central Park, it was great for a lazy relaxing day. We indulged in a horse drawn carriage ride, very romantic. We visited the zoo there too, but we did have ds with us. We got a portrait drawn by one of the many artists in the park, a lovely mememto. We also went to a couple of music concerts, one at Madison Sqaure gardens. Can't remember where we got the tickets, but we managed to get them quite cheaply. And nothing beats a NY deli breakfast. And the shops of course. Just a few ideas, I'm sure they won't have trouble filling their days. BTW, we reckoned the best way to and from the airports was by taxi, but get the fella who hails the taxis to arrange the fare with the driver first, including the toll fees. The taxis were only a little dearer than the buses, but a lot easier and door to door. HTH.

You must see a show - there is a half price ticket booth on times square - it's a must. Their is a hop on hop off tour bus which takes you around the city, that's good vfm Go to empire state building in the morning when it's nice and quiet. Hope you have a ball

Central Park - there's a bicycle hire place if she fancies cycling, otherwise fun to walk around and listen to the buskers...or horsedrawn carriage rides which would be very romantic.
If she's at all interested in Art Deco, the Radio City Music Hall tour is superb.
Empire State Building is a must - try to get there early - we did the simulator ride which was excellent.
Times Square is worth seeing - if she fancies a peak first, there are webcams she can look at before she goes.
And the Staten Island Ferry is free and you can see the Statue of Liberty from it.
Ground Zero is very moving if they're interested (I had thought it would be ghoulish to go there, but was glad I was persuaded.) There's a church nearby, which wasn't damaged during 9/11 and has a memorial inside which is very emotive.
The shopping is excellent, especially because the dollar is weak against sterling...take an empty suitcase!
