Bordeaux anyone?

Hi. We are going to be staying a little outside Bordeaux for a week. I usually get guide books and have a few ideas of where to visit, but I haven't had time. Does anyone have any recommendations of what to see in the area? We will have 4 children (7-12years) and will have a car. Thanks.

Dune de Pyla is good. Margaux lovely for wine.

Oh I thought you were offering us a glass of wine! Sorry, no help but I'm jealous!

If you can get down to Biscarosse Lake it's fab for children - huge but shallow with lovely sandy beaches. Head for Sanguinet/Parentis/Navarosse. Lots of places to hire bikes to cycle around. In Navarosse they have 'bull fighting' on some evenings but it's just sort of a Royal Knockout version of bull fighting. Some lovely castles but their names escape me! There's also a wsterpark near Gujan-mestras although we didn't make it in the end as too much fun at the lakes! Dune de Pyla worth a visit too.

Bordeaux is beautiful, the quays are lovely and then behind the Bourse there are lots of lovely little squares with nice cafés shops etc. Drive to Buttinière and get the tram in (you get a return tram ticket for driver and all passengers included) change trams at Porte de Bourgogne then get off at Bourse or Quinconces and have a wander around. They seem to be digging up a lot of streets at the moment (I was there yesterday) and one of the bridges is closed for cars so don't try driving in town.

Also nice museums, we do have a bit of culture too, it's not all just shopping and eating and drinking.
