Paris, whereabouts to stay?!?!?

Me and DH have Eurostar tickets for October to spend 2nights child free in Paris. I've never been, only to Disneyland, so have no real idea where is the best place to stay in terms of location within Paris? Any specific hotels that are any good? Don't want to spend a fortune really if possible, thanks!!

Please click on the link below for a guide on the areas of Paris. I've visited Paris many times over the years, and perfectly agree with everything mentioned!

When I was younger, I stayed in some nice hotels, but in 'edgy' areas due to cost (I was a student). Whilst I always had great trips, the vicinity around the hotels and the metro stations etc were very unpleasant, and with some very dodgy characters around. I say this as a born and bred Londoner, who has experienced a lot, and who also speaks French, but yes, I was very uncomfortable.

This hotel in the 13th arrondissement is great, we've stayed there a few times. The area is good and convenient too. We've stayed there in Summer and Winter.

We've stayed in Le Marais district too which was lovely. There are so many lovely hotels, but it depends on your budget.

We stay in a hotel called le d'albe in the Latin quarter.

We like the Narcisse Blanc in 7th. Good location, a spa and nice staff.

The other thing you could try is air bnb. We use them a lot (haven't used them in France yet), and have stayed in amazing locations and properties each time for a great price. In Paris it would really make you feel like a local with your keys to a great apartment. It works well for us, as we don't use room service or eat in hotels when we visit anyway, but dine and drink outside instead.

Thanks for the ideas guys I'll take a look at them all

We stayed one night in a Novotel and that was fine. It was the one at Gare de Lyon. There may be others in better locations.

Hotel Fabric Great hotel, great location - will feel like a treat, but won't break the bank.

Bloody hell what a list back there! As seasoned London er I have never felt that extreme level of threat in London. Also I find taxi are not as forth coming as in London so you can't even rely on flagging one down to get out of trouble!

We stayed here . Lovely hotel in great location, rooms not huge but we booked one with a balcony and Pantheon view which was fab. Staff were lovely and friendly. Easy walking distance to river, and Notre Dame, but close to Jardins de Luxembourg. Loads of restaurants/cafes nearby. A bit studenty, as right by the Sorbonne, but lovely vibe.

Love the Latin Quarter, particularly round Rue Mouffatard. I've used Airbnb a few times and it gives you a different experience. Try a Hamman At the Paris Mosque!

So you booked your train tickets, know your away for 2 nights and not booked a place to stay. Why would you risk that.

Loads of places to stay in Paris, you have time to book. I lived in Paris for 7 years and moved house several times. When I go back to visit, I stay near Saint Germain, Mabillon, Saint Sulpice, Sevres Babylone. Take buses everywhere (you wont see Paris from the metro) although this location is walkable to Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, jardins de Luxembourg, Invalides, Louvre, Orsay, Pont neuf (for boat trips) etc. The Hotel Michele Odeon is a bit further east but great location, good price and super cute.
