things have been going very badly between me and dh recently,in fact i think i am now depressed.
He has booked next week off work. he has just said that unless we are going to go somewhere he is going to work after all and then he suggested a trip to london.

we are in manchester and i think a trip to london where i have never been but expect it is very chaotic and busy would not help matters.

can anyone suggest somewhere we could go for a few days with ds1 and ds2 (11 and 8) that is enjoyable and a bit closer to us than london.

thanx

I personally dislike London, always feel over crowded and the volume of traffic really affects my asthma. thats just me though.

Why so far? What about Wales? Bit closer

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:02

lake district

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:02

abersoch

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:03

rockcliffe up in scotland is beautiful

tasja · 27/03/2007 19:04

Maybe Centre Parcs? They have nice things to do there. Check out www.centreparcs.co.uk
Hope you and dh sort thing out. Good luck.

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 19:04

yes, thats why i don't want to go. i want to go somewhere closer to home.

i feel that if we don't manage a nice trip somewhere it could be the end.

at the moment the kids hate each other and dh continuously puts me down.

i am clutching at straws but i need to suggest somewhere as he thinks i am rejecting the london idea because i'm being horrible.

I think unless you plan this very carefully a holiday could be the worst thing for you if I'm honest

You will need to be somewhere the kids aren't going 'I'm bored' .. and you will need to have stuff to do .. babysitters? good food

maybe London isn't such a bad idea if I'm honest, if you want to consider London could help you plan stuff for the kids .. maybe you could put them on a day sports course and have time to yourselves for leisurely lunches?

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 19:13

i am not expecting that we get any time to ourselves but i am hoping that we could have a nice time as a family.

i don't want him to go and work next week as the kids are expecting him to be around and will be disapointed. i also don't feel like i can face being the sole entertainer for 2 weeks especially as i don't drive.

to be honest i just feel like having the ground open up to swallow me away.

unfortunately ds1 and ds2 are not the type to do anything sporty and i know they won't give us any peace. i think a long long drive to london will be hellish though.

is keswick any good? how long would it take to get there from manchester?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:15

hey we're doing it in reverse

but if you're sure

you ok?

Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:15

windermere is 1 hour 49 mins away from Altrincham judging by theaa routeplanner I used yesterday

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 19:20

thats sounds more like it. is there anything to do in windermere?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 27/03/2007 19:21

dunno .. we're ditching kids and going

sorry

....

I think you need to find stuff the kids will be interested in then maybe plan around that .. what would they like?

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 19:23

we usually like eating, walking, museums, theme parks, zoos, swimming..

What about York only hour away. Theres plenty to do there. It's a lovely place to just walk round and has the museums. The haunted tour round the old castle is great esp for the kids.

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 19:34

oh yes, thanx lily. we went there last easter though so i think that might be out

Agree York is lovely, also cos you have 2 ds, you might want to try a day at crockytrail, (they've got a website) not far from chester. It's a bit like an assault course but much better than that implies. We had a great day there last year.

cleaninglady · 27/03/2007 20:02

I would second the lakes - especially windermere, bowness etc - you could go on the boat rides, beatrix potter museum , leisure centre for swimming etc - we do it a lot with the kids and live in cheshire so not far from you and it doesnt take long to get there - we went to abersoch this weekend just gone which was fab but a long drive

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 20:06

thanx ranting and cleaning. are you both what your names imply ?

OP posts:
cleaninglady · 27/03/2007 20:15

your welcome ! i spend most of my time ranting about cleaning so i should be a combination of the two names

cheeryface · 27/03/2007 20:22

lol just wondered as i am a cleaning lady. actually i'm both too!

OP posts:
rantinghousewife · 27/03/2007 20:29

Ha ha my dh would definitely say I am!!

cleaninglady · 27/03/2007 20:55

my name is because i spend most of my life cleaning, fetching, carrying, waiting on etc etc (it feels like !) and dont get paid for it either but i opted to be a SAHM so comes with the territory i suppose
