Did anyone else find it too much going to the Orlando parks?

I do like theme parks but not as much as my kids and dp. I'm finding 12 hours at a park way too much for me, but everyone seems to love it, am I the only one flagging!!?

Sea world is horrendously cruel and depressing so id sit that one out and stay in the villa

LoniceraJaponica · 31/07/2017 20:21

DD and I were there last year, and by the end of the holiday I was "theme parked" out. We did other stuff as well and never spent 12 hours in a park, but it doesn't make for a relaxing holiday.

I simply cannot understand people who do that kind of holiday year after year. It's Sicily this year for us.

Gezzagirl · 31/07/2017 21:01

Oo what I'd do for a beach holiday with no kids now lol.

We had a 5 day pass and accommodation for 7 days and had to extend our stay by 3 days, ie 5 day pass, 20 days stay as we had to have a day off after every full day at the parks. It was too full on for the kitchen Ds to go every day.

Mum2jenny · 31/07/2017 21:10

Not kitchen, kids Blush

SeaWorld really isn't that bad. It's got good rides too. We are commando rope drop people and have been many times but I still have breaks in the day. 9am-2pm then 5pm-close works best for me. We stay onsite in Disney so our break is a lot easier though. All of the parks have decent enough snoozing rides though. Ellen at Epcot (only for two more weeks though) Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Process and Tomorrowland Transit Authority at Magic Kingdom and the Great Movie Ride at the Studios are the best for it.

It's way too hot and busy in the holidays for 12 hour nonstop touring though.

Also second PP suggesting California Grill, Teppan Edo etc. Definitely no need to be eating junk food! We always use the dining plan so eat about 20-30 meals in Disney and have no issues avoiding burgers and hot dogs.

OliviaBenson · 31/07/2017 21:40

Seaworld really is that bad. It's cruel to keep large mammals effectively in a bathtub.

Unihorn · 31/07/2017 21:52

It's convenient to ignore all of the conservation work SeaWorld has done and continues to do to suit the agenda of Blackfish though. It's cruel to keep orcas in captivity, yes, but they first started this practice when multiple other things we deem wrong today were considered acceptable. This link is quite informative: www.greenecoservices.com/in-defense-of-sea-world/

Anyway, I don't think the OP cares too much. She's going to SeaWorld and I doubt she's going to spend time out on an expensive trip to watch a propaganda film.

buffyp · 02/08/2017 21:34

There's a lot of rubbish being spouted about Seaworld on this thread. Some of us don't base our opinion on a very biased one sided outdated film. I am very much looking forward to going next year and to discovery cove and feel not the slightest guilt about it. Everyone has the right to their opinion but you don't get to dictate where others should or shouldn't go.

SleightOfHand · 02/08/2017 21:58

Have they still got the Orca (Killer Whales) doing tricks. I went in the 80's when I knew no better. Just because they do some conservation work, still doesn't make it right. You aren't on your own though, lots of people don't care unfortunately.

Unihorn · 02/08/2017 22:32

There is one orca show still running in Orlando in which the whales are nowhere near as involved as they previously were.

Lasvegas · 02/08/2017 22:42

We all love thrill rides. This year we are staying at universal on site hotel. So the plan is to go first thing ( we get early access as guest) then come back to hotel for lunch/ pool sunbathe. Go back to park early evening.

I need to have some chill time too as work has been busy all year. Our accommodation includes fast track tickets. More expensive hotel but only doing 7 nights instead of the 10 we do when at villa.

HappydaysArehere · 02/08/2017 23:08

Went with the family a few years ago. Fun but soon longed for something else. Loved the Kennedy Centre and a place called Boggy Creek (boats and alligators).

SleightOfHand · 03/08/2017 04:51

Maybe once this one dies they won't get any more.

mogulfield · 03/08/2017 05:26

I lived in Orlando for a year and ate very healthily, I recommend cafe tutu tango, they do lovely tapas and the place is an art gallery with in resident Artists painting while you wait.
If you want to escape cocoa beach and Kennedy space centre are worth a visit.
There's also a lovely Spanish town called st. Augustine not far from Orlando, it was a slice of Europe for me when I missed home and the oldest town in the US.
Probably not on this trip but I also recommend the Florida keys, I was blown away by how beautiful it was. I felt like I was in tropical paradise Smile picture included!

Just got back. Whilst it is a full on holiday, it doesn't have to be. We never stayed all day at the parks and in two weeks managed to do all we wanted, just stuck to Disney and universal. We planned our days so some days we had free then decided on the day. If you want something other than burgers, try olive garden (Italian) or sweet tomatoes, lovely buffet salad, jkt potatoes, breads, soups, desserts.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/08/2017 10:21

Yes to Sweet Tomatoes. DD is vegetarian and found loads to eat there. We loved Pei Wei as well.

Crushsick · 03/08/2017 10:28

Jesus Christ. It's a hard life isn't it? Hmm

Gezzagirl · 03/08/2017 15:45

Well I have to say we all enjoyed seaworld probably the best! I do feel slightly uncomfortable about liking it because it does seem cruel, but it was a really good day, great rides not many ques, lots to see and do

Gezzagirl · 03/08/2017 16:51

Oh and the Olive Garden was fantastic!

Great news, hope you're managing to relax a little more now!

2014newme · 03/08/2017 21:50

'it does seem cruel'
Well yes because it is. Watch the blackfish film.
Still it was your favorite day 🤔🙄
So fuck the animals

SleightOfHand · 03/08/2017 22:21

It's like us living in the space of a swimming pool, never to be allowed outside of that space. I've just been trying to imagine it, an empty swimming pool, having food thrown down to you.
