Why are Ryanair still considered a "cheap airline"????

I travelled last week with them to Faro, and was stung with an 80euro surcharge for excess baggage because i had grouped mine and DD luggage allowance in one bag - apparently each entitlement has to be in a separate bag. How can this be a fair policy? I was travelling alone with 2 tots (9mths and 2yrs), so I put everything in one bag on purpose !!! Never again will i try to think "practical". Actually, thinking about it, i don't think i'll travel with Ryanair again either....

Has anyone else had experience of this kind of thing, and would it be worth my while complaining officially do you think?

it is very clear when you book though. they are not geared particularly for families. dh and i have just booked to go to france with dd. i wouldn't attempt it on my own with ryanair, i'd go with another airline, pay more to get more service.

Actually my trip was not cheap at all, the only thinkg it had going for it was decent times for travelling with small children. You're right BD that when I checked the small print it was there, i just can't believe it makes a difference to them whether the same weight is carried in 2 bags or in one. Anyway, i shall put it down to experience.... Aside from that the staff were also totally unhelpful, and some downright rude. Never again!

None of the cheap airlines are cheap unless you get them on a good day.

We moved to Nottingham from London and chose this part of Nottm (Notts/Derbys border) partly because it's only 15 mins from the airport and DH, as a Kiwi passport holder, used to spend hours queueing in LHR but no time at East Mids Airport (EMA) if we visited my parents.

When we moved here British Midland operated from EMA. Then they moved the bulk of their ops to LHR and set up bmibaby. easyjet and Ryanair soon got stuck in and now you can only get a decently priced air fare if you want to travel at ridiculous times of day otherwise you pay HUGE amounts, much more than DH used to pay for his flights with BM.

Now if on business he almost always travels from Birmingham, along with most other businesspeople I know from round here.

Ryan Air = crap IMO Rude,on the ground and in the air like we are doing them a favour . They probably get that from the owner / MD chappie .Most of the cabin crew look about 12 and to top it all I agree they whack every supplement on possible so it works out cheaper to fly a Proper airline ! Easy Jet I think are better in the low cost sector but wen flying alone with kids I opt now for seat allocation not free for all !
But re the bagscene even BA have said each bag no more than 23kg which is a bind when doing 1 bag for 2 of you . As 4 me its one hand on the buggy and one pulling the case, hand luggage on back in rucksack!
