travelling Glasgow to St Petersburg - jet lag?

Here's a stupid question - I'm going to St Petersburg for work in October.

I can't figure out whether I'll be jet lagged - it's a 7 hour flight (but, seems there's a delay at a connecting airport) and they are 2 hours ahead.

I'm thinking, should be good to land and go straight to work?

Anyone got any top tips? Never been to Russia before, so this is exciting!

I don't think you will get jet-lag for a 2 hour time difference.
However I wouldn't fancy a 7hr flight (plus 2 hr checkin) and then straight to work.
Can you build in some sight seeing time,?

Blimey. London to Moscow is 3.
I know this because on the way back because of the flight time and time difference, I stepped off the plane in London a minute before I boarded in Moscow!! Ha ha.
7 hours is long! Good luck.

Oh, that's helpful. I'll see if I can get a flight to Amsterdam and then another with a different carrier. The airport waits must be looooong!

Yip, hoping to get some sight seeing done. Always fancied the Hermitage!

Quickest route is either Glasgow to Amsterdam or Charles de gaul with a short layover of just over an hour but those flights don't get you to STPB until midnight. There are other earlier flights but they take longer.

You won't get jetlag.

7 hour flight? Are you sure? Not a big time difference so you will shake off jet lag pretty quickly. Used to travel between UK and Russia a lot for work. Moscow/st P is no big deal from that perspective.

No jetlag. Book the Hermitage before you go, or enjoy the massive queues!

Amazing, thanks, folks.

Yeah, I did think "7 hours?", but, then I thought "Russia is quite big" and that was the end of the thinking.

Brilliant, thanks, I'll have a more thoughtful look. And, book the Hermitage, that's a great tip. I love a geek out, me.

We flew Edinburgh to Moscow then St Petersburg to Edinburgh via Amsterdam back in April. Our flight home was cancelled! Shock It was a complete freaking nightmare but is, of course, unlikely to happen to you. If you don't want to book the Hermitage in advance, use the kiosks outside the museum- don't join the massive ticket queues. No one seems to know about the kiosks.

The Yusopov Palace was also worth seeing and open some evenings, which might suit you depending on your work schedule.

oooh, that's helpful, thanks, Noo.

Looks like it's all going ahead, I'm sorting visa stuff out. Really quite excited!

Have been to St Petersburg 3 times with work. Definitely not a 7 hour flight if direct. More like 3-4. And I am pretty sure the time difference is now +3 when we're on BST and +4 in winter (that time zone in Russia decided a few years ago to stay on summer time all year round). October you should still be OK though - what's difficult is going in December when you need to get up at 8 am local time and your body's telling you it's 4 am and the outside world is also telling it's 4 am as it's pitch dark! Doesn't get light till about 1030 am in winter.
