i am going away with sister, husband her four kids and my daughter, any ideas on how to split food restaurant bills?

Seems to me that as you they are 2 adults and 2 kid and you are 1 of each, that it should be split into two thirds/one third. Or you pick up every third bill and they pay for the first two.

My own tried and tested formula for 'splitting' anything -

Count each adult as 2 and each child as 1 then add up each family.

E.g. a family of 2 adults and 4 children = 8 and a family of 1 adult and 1 child = 3.

Therefore the first family would pay 80% of the bill and the second would pay 30%.

(Don't count babies obviously).

Works for us!

Umm hamster - in your model, wouldn't family one pay 8/11ths and family two 3/11ths? It doesn't translate directly to % - your example adds up to 110%!

Hah! Just testing to see if anyone was awake!

I meant what you said Blu.

Good system.

You might want to calculate the actual cost of the villa on the number of bedrooms each family uses?

Oops, misread the OP!

We often go away with my family. We don't go out for meals together but in terms of accommodation we pay per bedroom. We always pay twice what everyone else pays because we have 2 bedrooms.
