Complete confusion re isofix. Any advice?

Are isofix car seats portable between cars?
Dp and I both have cars with Isofix fittings, can we use same seat or do we have to have seperate ones.

Anyone know?

You'd need to buy one seat and two Isofix bases and leave one in each car - then you just click the seat into whichever car you're using that day.

Bearing in mind that the bases are normally about the same price as the seat itself (£100), it might be more practical (and no less safe) to get a seat that is good with our without its Isofix base (eg MaxiCosi Cabrio, Britax CosyTot).
Then you can leave the base in whichever you use most often, and use it with the seatbelt in the other car.

oh, and do check the seat you choose will fit both cars - both Britax and Maxi-Cosi have fit finders on their websites.

Depends on how they fix in. For true isofix, you can move them really, really easily from car to car and don't need any additional bits. We have the Britax ones and they have been great and have been moved umpteen times!

You don't need two bases as they are so easy to click in and out from one car to the other. We have maxi-cosi cabrio with the base and their Priori isofix. Although the isofix makes the seat slightly heavier it is so easy to fit it takes seconds. Hope this helps.

Should have said that the Britax ones we have come as one big clunky seat - no additional base. As Balletmum said, they are heavy but very portable.

Thanks everyone. Two bases + car seat would come to a fairly hefty price.

However I thought they were safer than belted seats. Also can you take the base out when you sell yourcar?
