Lightweight cabin bag with wheels

poppym12 · 18/07/2017 08:33

Could anyone recommend a wheeled cabin bag that doesn't weigh a third of a 10kg luggage allowance when empty please?

I already have a small wheeled case (2.7kg empty) and a cabin max bag/rucksack (brilliant, lightweight, roomy but has aggravated an old injury on a recent trip) so I need wheels.

I have a IT 'world's lightest' that is 55 x 35 x 20 cm I think, which I believe is allowed on nearly all airlines. As well as being very light, it's designed so the frame goes round the outside of the case rather than through the back, to maximise internal space. It's also survived going in the hold a few times.

Argos and Matalan have a range of designs/colours etc.

I love the IT range and have now got rid of all the other suitcases. Argos is best value if you have an Argos, otherwise Asda stock them, and I got the purple one click and collect from Tesco.

I'm going away in December for a week, this will be the first time I've not checked a case in. I've just bought this from B&M's. I'm not home just now to check but I'm sure it's just over 1kg in weight. Our apartment will have a washing machine so I'm optimistic that I'll fit 1 weeks worth of clothes into it Grin

I looked at that brand alpaca but wondered how durable they are as the fabric looks a bit flimsy?

I've just seen that one maggie but it looks like they weigh 2.4-2.8kg when empty which isn't very useful when flying with an airline that allows a whopping 5kg allowance.

My IT suitcase is probably at least 6 years old and still in great condition having been on dozens of flights, some of which it was checked into the hold.

If you're limited to 5 kg and can manage it, I would use a rucksack rather than a wheeled case.

I'm not sure it's worth paying huge amounts for suitcases really. I've only ever had cheap ones and they've lasted for years and been perfectly practical/easy to use. My first suitcase as an adult cost £13 from Matalan and lasted at least 10 years. I've probably still got it somewhere and would still use it if it was the correct size for a journey.

I couldn't imagine paying hundreds of pounds for them. If you found you didn't get on with it, or they changed the allowed sizes, which is something they are threatening to do for cabin bags, your money is wasted.

Good points Barbara, thank you. I think i can get an IT one from argos to collect at my local sainsburys so it will save a trip to the shopping centre.

My IT suitcase ripped after one use. Bought in UK when on a visit and I live in Ireland so I couldn't return it. Sad

I fly a lot and I've got this. Loads of room and really light.

I really like it because I can also squeeze it beneath the seat in front and put my feet on it.

Tripp has some great collection of cabin bags. I am eyeing for one myself at least by the end of this month.

55cm carry on luggage is too big for Stobart Air who Aer Lingus use for flights to Bristol Sad

Hersetta427 · 20/07/2017 12:35

Cabin max do a version of the rucksack with wheels also - that's what I use.

However if you want something cheaper this only weights 1.5kg and gets good reviews

I have this one from John Lewis. It looks great and is so easy to pack as you fit half your things on one side and half on the other.
