Have seen conflicting things. Is it just the driver or all occupants? We are off to Corsica - seems to imply Avis just provide one Confused

I think it's Spain that needs high vis for all occupants ? I just looked on google but couldn't find anything helpful. However the hire car company should be providing whatever is appropriate. You may also be able to pick up anything you need when you collect the car?

When driving in France you are required by law to carry the following items:

Reflective jackets (one for each occupant, these must be kept inside the vehicle within easy reach)
Warning triangle (compulsory in every vehicle with 4 wheels or more)
Headlamp beam deflectors (depending on your car, you will either need deflector stickers or have to adjust the beam manually)
Breathalysers/alcohol test (as of January 2013 the French government announced that the introduction of an €11 fine for not carrying one has been postponed indefinitely)
A GB sticker (or ‘euro’ registration plates featuring the GB initials)
Spare bulbs - by law you’re also mandated to carry a spare bulb kit for your vehicle, as the French police deem it necessary to replace it there and then on the grounds of safety. For a few pounds to buy a kit, you could avoid unwanted attention and a fine.

....and with British plates you are an obvious target for a check!

ememem84 · 02/07/2017 09:52

Depending on where you're going you'll also need an emissions sticker too.only really relevant for certain major cities st present but if you're driving through Paris Lyon Grenoble etc you need one.

And a first aid kit.

And a fire extinguisher. We travel to France regularly and leepneverything in a box in the boot. Except hi viz vests which we just chuck in the back of the car.

Customs people in France also advised us to keep cash (up to eur100) in the car in case of a fine or whatnot.

Good link jacket thanks I'll remember that!

frenchfancy · 03/07/2017 13:40

We certainly don't have a hi vis for all occupants and we don't carry breathalysers or fire extinguishers either. The gendarmes are far more concerned with your speed and whether or not you have been drinking.

Sorry been preoccupied with packing and work. I had seen the race link before. In the end found a link to a French govt page which Google ( and my teenager) helpfully translated. Appears that it is only one jacket so we are going to go with whatever Avis include.

Thanks for the help.
