School trip

My dc is going on a school trip in the next fortnight and I am really worried - I do not want dc to go on the trip, fly without me etc. We are not allowed contact for the whole trip which I find rather ridiculous. Of course, I get why the school has the policy to stop the children texting home saying that they are homesick. However, how many adults would go away without their phones/ access to email. I am terrified about the airport, even after recent events.

Also, it will also be very hot in Southern Spain.
The worry is making me poorly. I literally want to sob, and I woke up having a panic attack.

(Posted this in 'extra curricular' education section too as I was unsure where to post it)

My DD (12) went on a school trip to Spain a few weeks ago. It was specific for language learning. No phone & no contract for 6 days!
She had a lovely time! And as everyone was in the same boat, they all coped well without the gadgets!
As for me, I'd lie if I said I wasn't worrying about the travelling from airports and international train stations. They flew out 3 days before Manchester ...
But then seeing her come home all happy, a bit more grown up and full of fantastic, funny stories, I think it was worth every minute of worry!

I can understand you worrying about the no contact bit, but remember teachers will have your details and they will contact you in an emergency. Spain isn't really that far compared to a lot of other countries. It sounds like your dd is very excited and happy to go, which is the main thing. The weather is nothing to worry about, people regularly take their dc to countries averaging 30-40 degrees and they all survive. Just make sure she has a decent sun hat and sunglasses and she's capable of putting on sun cream so she doesn't burn.

It's OK for you to be nervous, but try not to transmit it to your DD.
We were very concerned re DD2's residential in y5 as she had had only 1 night way from us ever before. And it was overseas (well, Isle of Wight). School looked after her well and she enjoyed herself.

This month she is going to Paris for a y7 secondary trip. We are all much less concerned.

This could be a real confidence boost to your DD, and to you. Teachers want everything to go smoothly, they really don't want any incidents.
