Hi all I was after some advice I'm travelling with my family including my 5 month old to Cyprus. My little one still has bottles so I'm after some advice on what do people do about sterilising? What do you take? Also do you take formula with you and my biggest question is do you ha e to buy bottled water or tap water obvs boiled to make up bottle? Getting very confused! Please help! Smile

I lived in Turkey when my daughter was a baby and although I breastfed I did sterilise things for feeding and I found Milton tablets in a bowl of water the best way.

You should use bottled water for the bottles and try to find one with low sodium if you can.

Milton do a plastic box for cold water sterilising or you can buy pre-sterilised bottles off Amazon that you use once

Milton tablets plus a clip lock box with lid.

For the airport I would drain off the liquid before security. For longer flights I would refill liquid after security with new tablet.

We used mam bottles that can self sterilise in the microwave. If no access to a microwave then use Milton tablets. I order formula from boots and pick it up airside at the airport. Enough small ready made bottles for the flight and one a day whilst there plus a tub of powder. Use boiled bottled water to make up bottles. Pick the lowest sodium one you can get (often have a sign on indicating ok for babies).

Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I'm due to have my first baby in Dec (so excited!) so in May baby will be around 5 months. My partner is desperate to go to Jamaica in May for his best friends wedding but I am a little worried about how the baby would be on the flight and I am hoping to breastfeed so I would love some advice about how people might have coped with travelling and breastfeeding before?! Obviously there would be a lot of family around and we would be staying on the resort only so this would be nice. But I'm still having doubts about if this would work with a small baby?! Help! Thankyou!!!!

5 months is a brilliant time to travel with a baby. They still nap frequently, aren't mobile yet and you won't need to worry about food. If you're breastfeeding even better, although no big drama if bottle feeding. Airlines generally let you take pushchair and car seat for free, hopefully the hotel would be able to provide a cot, otherwise you could take a travel cot but may have to pay.

Thanks so much for your help so much to think about! I was thinking of buying the Milton tablets and then would you use bottled water to steralise them? How do you go about ordering the milk from boots do you call them? Thanks

You order it online, just select the correct store when you pick collection details. Larger airports may have more than one and make sure it's the airside one! I seem to recall it's on their website. You don't need to use bottled water with the Milton, tap would be fine.

For example this is how to do it at Birmingham.

That's great thank you were flying from Birmingham Smile

Another thing to watch at Birmingham is the queues can be horrific. I'd recommend getting there 3 hours prior to your flight and pay in advance for the fast track security passes. Then once you're through you can go for a coffee and have time for a feed/nappy change before you get on the flight. You'll be able to take your pushchair through to the gate but won't get to back until you get to the baggage carousel so I'd suggest taking a sling with you so that as soon as you land you can pop your baby in it and keep your hands free!
