Venice is a day trip from Lido.
Amazing to visit.

SJane45S · 27/06/2017 22:21

Wouldn't recommend it full stop! It's a thin sand spit built by Mussolini as a project full of not especially attractive hotels and a beach. To get to Venice you have to get a bus & then a ferry - takes at least an hour. Italy is a beautiful country & this place has to be the least attractive place I've been to there. It may be cheap in comparison to say the Amalfi coast but that's for a good reason!

GreenShadow · 28/06/2017 11:39

Yes it's busy, commercial and a bit tacky, but if you want a combination of a beach holiday and a bit of Venician sightseeing, then it's OK. There's a very nice water park close by (tip - get there as early as possible to avoid the rush) and beaches are good.

I don't know if you are after self catering or hotel, but we stayed about 3 years ago in a hotel called Hotel Orient Pacific link here which I'd recommend.

Thanks GreenShadow. That's exactly what we want something to keep DD happy and a day trip to Venice along with my love of Italian food!!

Hotel looks great - thank you for sharing

Glad to be of use!
Do ask if you've any particular questions.

Have you considered the Lido di Venezia as well? Friends of ours went recently - has the same advantages (beach, hotels with pools and off the heavy Venice tourist circuit) but is closer to Venice & has more interesting architecture (apparently!). Just a suggestion & apologies for my negativity above! I had an awful holiday in Lido di Jesolo years ago but that's probably partly due to a flea pit of a hotel with no air conditioning and it being a very hot August!

hollyisalovelyname · 28/06/2017 15:18

My trip to Lido di Jeslo was many moons ago.
Our hotel was not on the beach promenade and was poor but the trip to Venice stood out.
The Venetian Lido sounds like a great idea.

massistar · 28/06/2017 15:54

Caorle just along the coast is much nicer than Jesolo. Lots of little shops and restaurants and not as tacky. Gets very busy in August though!

GetHappy · 28/06/2017 19:53

Thanks guys will look in to Lido do Venezia and Caorle!!

For those that have stayed in Lido do Jesolo what did you do in regards to transfers?

Union lido is excellent.
There is an excellent bus service that runs along the lido. Airport transfers are great. If you want to go to Venice you have the choice of bus or the bus to Punta Sabbioni where you then catch the boat.

SureIusedtobetaller · 30/06/2017 06:40

We liked it - atmosphere was very safe and lots of families. Easy day trips and the water park was great. Nice evening walk for an ice cream after dinner.
Take insect repellent as can be a few mozzies.

Hellothereitsme · 30/06/2017 06:46

Yes we like it too - we have been there three times and going again this year. Suits my family. Beautiful beach.

hollyisalovelyname · 30/06/2017 12:56

SJane where do you recommend to stay in Lido de Venezia ?

hollyisalovelyname · 30/06/2017 13:47

massistar
Where in Carole would you recommend please?

massistar · 30/06/2017 16:28

Sorry Holly.. I can't recommend any specific hotels.. my inlaws have an apartment in nearby Porto Santa Margherita so we go there!

SJane45S · 30/06/2017 18:14

Also sorry Holly - it was a friend of mine who went recently to the Lido di Venezia - not me! I've only been to di Jesolo & would definitely not recommend the flea pit we stayed in! Just had a squizz on TripAdvisor for you & the Residence Le Ville del Lido may fit your bill. It's a small child friendly aparthotel with pool according to the reviews near the beach & half an hour from St Marks. While it's probably pricier than what you can find in di Jesolo, it looks prettier & definitely closer to Venice & easier to do trips from. I love Italy & there are so many beautiful places & aside from the rubbish hotel, I just found the Lido di Jesolo ugly & a pain with 2 constantly arguing small kids on my own to get off the place! All your 3 year old will want though is a pool & a beach so if you're purely going for them then go di Jesolo. If you've a bit more in the budget & want a bit of character then if it was me I'd go di Venezia. Have a great time either way!

SJane45S · 30/06/2017 18:48

Aghhh - just re-read this & realised you're not the OP Holly so ignore the bit about your 3 year old!

hollyisalovelyname · 30/06/2017 20:34

No probs - great info anyway Grin

Mummyamy123 · 30/06/2017 20:39

We stayed at camping adreatici- lovely little chalets, nice restaurant, little pool, and direct access to the beach. There is a kids club but it's all in Italian so didn't send the kids. Pon arrival we got a taxi from Marco Polo airport- can't remember the cost though.......
It's an easy trip to Venice for the day, and interesting because you can do it by one bus then one water taxi.
Ohhhhhh I want to go back now!!

excited99 · 06/07/2017 11:09

I've been three times. Once with DH pre children and twice with our two children. I have loved wah holiday. We have always booked a package holiday with Thomson. We stayes at Hotel D'Annunzio last year, it was cheap and cheerful. I really like the beach. The sea is shallow, you can wade out maybe 100 m and the sea is only just past your knee so it's great for kids to play on lilos etc. It is easy enough to get to Venice. I like LDJ because we can have a mix of a beach holiday and a city break. Pre children we also did a day trip to Verona and Lake Garda which was amazing, however I think that might be a bit too much with kids.

The main strip is tacky, but it was perfect for us. Arcades, ice cream parlours etc. If we just wanted a quiet evening we would just walk along the beach instead of the strip.

Aqualandia is based very central, walking distance from most hotel. It had a good mix of childrens slides and adult slides, pirate shows and wave pools. We went twice on our last holiday, we all loved it.
