We are flying with Monarch for the first time this month and just want to know what they are like! I have a crippling fear of flying but made myself to away last year and we flew with Easyjet. The staff were amazing and didn't judge the hysterical crying and rocking that resulted from my stupid fear. Any experience would be good as I think the more I know the (hopefully) more prepared I will be!

We have flown with them quite a few times and had a really good experience every time. The staff are lovely.
Hope your flight goes well.

I flew to Lisbon with Monarch last month (first time flying with them). Really good experience, the plane on the way out had been refurbished inside and had really 'thin' seats - apparently they've been able to create a bit more legroom with these new seats and it did feel more spacious blog.monarch.co.uk/say-hello-to-new-ergonomic-slim-new-onboard-seats/

We flew with them at Xmas and again this week. Really good, speedy check in, great crews.
You know you can book seats in advance and check in online? Might make things easier?

VilootShesCute · 19/06/2017 09:54

I think dh has booked seats up front again in case I decide to tremble in toilet for duration 😢 but didn't know you could check in online! Will have to enquire. Thank you for responses.

They are fine.
Have you done a fear of flying course, people I know who have say they were very useful.

We actually looked at the easyjet course but it was fully booked or I would have tried it. Although the quick trip on a plane at the end...aaarrrgh.

I did the Virgin course a few years ago and tbh it hasn't made any difference to me as I haven't flown since nor have any intention of doing so. Have you spoke to your GP about trying Diazepam? It's the only thing that helped, I didn't feel out of it but just lovely and relaxed.

I flew to Lisbon with Monarch last month, too, AliceMum Smile

I've been quite satisfied with all the budget airlines lately - EasyJet, Ryanair - but Monarch were the nicest of all I thought - the plane was so clean and bright and felt spacious. We had booked extra legroom seats up front too. The loo was just a couple of rows away. The crew and captain were lovely.

It was a really relaxed and cheerful flight!

Remember if you can that there are thousands of flights every day (look at flightradar to see them all crisscrossing the sky) - and the other thing that helped me get over my fear was looking at the Cabin Crew as they board - chatting cheerfully - probably on their second flight of the day - this is just a job to them, one they wouldn't be so calm about if it was as worrying as my knocking knees and sweaty palms seemed to think!

Definitely check in online - you can do it as early as 28 days before the flight - and if you have done this and printed your boarding passes at home, you can then go straight to security if you have only cabin baggage, or if you have hold baggage it's straight to Bag Drop, and then security - and then a good look around the airport shops and cafes!

Have a wonderful time! I think it's even possible to enjoy flying after a while!

I flew with them coming back from Spain. I was pregnant, had terrible morning sickness and I threw up just after take off when the seat belt sign was still on. The staff were very kind and helpful as soon as they could get to me. DD still uses the Monarch branded blanket they gave me!

Thank you ☺

i have a fear of flying but take diazepam. it really helps to keep a lid on the shaking, sick feeling and the heavy feeling in the limbs - I used to get where I couldn't seem to move.

worth giving it a try and your GP should be sympathetic. all airlines that you go with will be helpful. the job of the staff is to keep flyers quiet and happy and they will do whatever they need to to help with this. but I would really suggest that if you have children you try something like diazepam so that you appear calmer or your children may pick up on this and perpetuate the fear.

Used them last year and will do again this August. It was fine, better than expected. Preferred it to Easyjet.
