Seems to have fallen out of the news a bit. Would you risk it with kids? Anyone been lately? How was the security?

Trying to arrange first ever package holiday. Turkey looks good value. Hoping to avoid somewhere too noisy, not a party animal. Can anyone talk about relative attractions of Bodrum, gumbet Bitez, Didem, Kusadesi? Also wondering whether it is worth going half board if you're vegetarian?

Etak15 · 27/05/2017 17:47

We were also there last year (kusadasi) during the coup, if it wasn't for worried family and friends texting we wouldn't have known anything! The locals just shrug their shoulders "eh politics"
I find all inclusive too expensive for our budget, this yr when looking it would 2 wks would have been £4000 ++ for 6 of us. Whereas have sorted it independently for £1500 plus we like to do our own thing, and is cheap enough to eat out every meal - as long as you stick to local type places not the places aimed at tourists. Some lovely apartments/villas on holidaylettings website.
We go every year and will continue to hopefully!

Have a look at Kas & Kalkan if not a party person.

Don't go half board - Turkish food is wonderful & v easy for vegetarians.

sadusername2 · 27/05/2017 19:31

Thanks Etak 15 and magi megi. I am taking from this that it is cheaper to eat out and that good vegetarian food easy to come by.

magimedi · 27/05/2017 19:46

It is far, far cheaper to eat out. Don't go to the fancy places & you will be able to eat an amazing meal for two (& I am including a beer each - wine in Turkey is expensive & not wonderful) for around £20 - or less - for two.

We ummmed and ahhed about going back to Turkey this year. We've been 5 times before as a couple and had fantastic holidays (mainly around Bodrum and Marmaris).

This year it will be our first holiday with our DS who is 2 so I was a little wary, cats bum faces from anyone I mentioned Turkey to, etc, but after Mondays atrocity, which was in my city, I decided to book, the fuckers will get you anywhere if they want to. I'm not holidaying in a caravan in Skegness for the rest of my life just because there are fucktards in the world with empty lives and willing to blow themselves up.

I think Marmaris will be perfect for us as a family. The marina is beautiful and the beach is gorgeous. There are lots of lively places for the party animals but plenty of quieter, laid back places - it's not just the typical 'fun pub' fare. Even as a couple we didn't visit the notorious 'Bar Street', and didn't see any pissed up Brits abroad. We're specifically going back to the same hotel as it's away from the main drag, has no evening entertainment to keep bambino (and us) awake plus lovely balconies to enjoy some peace and quiet with a duty free G&T when bambino goes to sleep.
