Flying with BA - do I choose to sit with husband and baby on lap or alone with bassinet

I'm going to Spain next week with husband and 6 month baby flying with BA. I'd booked our seats online but BA have separated me from my husband and put me in a bulkhead seat (row 21 .. I didn't know they had bulkhead seats back there?) as I can then have a bassinet. However my husband can not sit with us and the only option for us to sit together is to sit in a normal seat and have baby on my lap. I dont' know what to choose. It's the first time we've flown since having our son and so I'm a bit nervous at being alone with him and would rather sit with my husband. But should I choose the bassinet and row 21? It's only a 2 1/2 hour flight so not that long. Has anyone used the bassinets to Spain - are they worth it? I'm not even sure my 6 month will be intersted in being in a bassinet. Many thanks.

I regularly fly for about 4 hours without using a bassinet. I wouldn't think that 2.5 hours would be a problem to hold a baby in your lap, plus you will have your husband with you to help with holding/food etc...

Flew with BabyDragon to Spain with no bassinet. It's fine. You can play pass the baby with your DH.

Sit beside your DH with baby on your lap. I flew to Florida on 8 hour flight withh DD on my lap - we jsut swapped her between us when food was served. It is unlikely your baby will sleep in the bassinet anyway. My DD slept attached to me for most of the flight

SoupDragon · 15/03/2007 12:45

Ooooh, no! Let your DH sit in the seat with the bassinet and you sit far away and drink the 2.5 hours away or read a book...

I thought they only did bassinets for long haul! I'd sit together with DS on your lap. you can always get up and walk about. Unless it's usually nap time or at night, maybe he'd like it then in the bassinet.

Thank you all for your advice - you've confirmed what I was thinking... though I like SoupDragon's idea of letting DH sit with baby!

Are the offering the bassinet at no extra charge ? If so I'd go for that, its a bit of a hassle holding the baby for the flight even though its not long, plus you could swap seats with your husband half way through and take turns looking after the baby. Heck though I'm just jealous as no ones ever offered us a bassinet.

I'd go for sitting together without a bassinet. I can't see a 6-month-old being very interested in the bassinet (or even in the bouncy chair that they can put in the same slot instead).
