Dordorgne tips

We're heading to the dordorgne in June with a 4yo and 2yo, has anyone got any good suggestions for day trips out, ie which villages/towns are good for a wander, which chateaus are good. We're staying near Sarlat but will have a car. Also if anyone has any suggestions for a good riding centre that would be great too.
Thanks

I went when I was little, thought older than your DC and we went to the caves. I think I liked it... hard to remember now but it's pretty cool.

Sunday market in Issyjac(so?) nice little town, with small park and lovely restaurant that does a family Sunday buffet, outfoor courtyard... def recommend if you arrive on a Saturday...

For caves I would recommend the Gouffre de Padirac. You take a boat ride on an underground river!

I would recommend a canoe ride along the Dordogne, but your DC might be a bit young (although they do provide all safety equipment and the river is extremely calm).

Sarlat itself is a very pretty old town (quite busy though), and La Roque Gageac is a beautiful town build into the cliffs by the river. It's probably best view on a boat trip.

Sarlat is beautiful, great market on Weds & Saturdays and worth a wander round. La Roque Gageac as mentioned is very pretty, you can do a boat trip on the dordogne from there.

Chateau Castelnord is great, my DC were 3 & 5 when we went and loved pootling round and the views from there are amazing.

Jardins messeyac (check spelling) are great to wander round and have a picnic, there's a playground in there and they have candlelit openings some evenings in the summer.

I can't remember where it is but there's a little steam train that we plan to go on when we visit this year.

We are going back again in August this year, also staying near Sarlat so if you find any hidden gems while you are there, please report back. Happy hols!

Padirac
Rocamadour - a "village perché" built on the side of a cliff
Le parc des singes - monkey sanctuary
A canoe trip on the river
Visit some of the troglodyte homes.
Sarlat
Les Eyzies

Domme - medieval village, beautiful for walking around
Beynac castle - quite a lot of steps though.
Gouffre de Padirac as mentioned
The Lascaux caves are impressive (although they are reconstructions) but I think the queues can get quite long.
