Pine Cliffs Portugal - October half term

Hello, we have been looking at holidays over October half term. We want four or five star luxury hotel and I just don't think that's do-able on our budget in the Canary Islands (which we would prefer because of the nicer weather). We can afford a week in Pine Cliffs in Portugal which looks lovely but I'm not sure what the weather will be like. Has anyone been over October half term? Is there enough stuff to do if the weather is ropey? All ideas for short haul sunshine at October half term welcome! Thank you so much, Scottish

I live in the Algarve, and although October half term can be nice, it's not guaranteed that it will be - it can be cool and showery

Hi - We went at Easter last year and did find it a bit cool although sunny. We had a really lovely time though. Mostly relaxing, beach going and golf for us. The pools were not especially warm but there is an indoor one. The food in the restaurants is good but very expensive. There is a nearby supermarket and the kitchen in the apartment was good - with a daily cleaner which was lovely.

We didn't want to leave

We did a med cruise once in October half term from Barcelona which was not bad value and most days were really warm and sunny.

Hi OP, have you considered Malta or Cyprus? I think they will be warmer than Portugal. TBH, I think many places are fairly expensive in October half term, I personally gave up last year, as I found it too expensive.

Thank you all SO much for your replies. Hmmm I think we might skip it as would be an expensive week for iffy weather. We really want luxury but can't afford the Canary Islands which seem to be the best place for sun at that time. Flights out to Tenerife etc are just loads that week because of half term. So that's most of our budget gone before we start thinking about a hotel! I really appreciate all the input from you all, thank you. Is a cottage in the U.K. My best bet?

You would definitely need a car for Pine Cliffs. Weather could be cool. I tend to agree it could be expensive for iffy weather.

The South Coast of France is usually really warm when I have been there at that time of year. What about Croatia?

I think perhaps lower your expectations about the weather and the luxury level? Whatever way you look at it, a holiday will be great! Make plans for outings in case of bad weather.

I went to Lanzarote in the February half term, it wasn't too expensive, we flew with Ryanair, which was fine, and we rented a lovely villa from airbnb. We hired a car (very cheap) and did breakfast/lunch self-catering and had dinners out. The weather was very mixed, quite cold and windy for the first few days, but the last half was warm enough for the beach. All in all a good holiday, but I think that was because we didn't have high expectations and hadn't spent too much on flights and accommodation.

Generally the weather in any part of Southern Europe and the Med is unpredictable at that time of year. While you may be lucky and have lovely weather, it does tend to rain a lot more in autumn, so you cannot guarantee fine weather all week.

If you want better weather you really need to be looking at the Canary Islands.

Thank you all so much for your advice. We are going to get a cottage in the U.K. I think. I really appreciate your input.

My parents go to turkey in mid October every year and the weather is always great for them.
