Holiday ideas: Beach for me & culture for DH, cheap as chips?!

I would be happy to read books on the beach for a week in the sun; DH likes nothing more than scarpering around sights and ruins!

We are looking for somewhere with a bit of both, self-catering, for a week, bargain basement cheap though Grin. If we can fly from Birmingham even better.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Valencia

Valencia, I agree, is perfect.
Lovely beaches, cheap as chips.

Hisband can go and see the Holy Grail and all sorts!
Eat Paella, go to the opera.

A colleague has been to Croatia several times and raves about it. His pictures also look stunning as well.

Malaga has lots of culture! There are beaches there or you can stay in one of the resorts on the Costa del Sol and your DH can get the Cercanias into Malaga to go round all the museums.

Was going to suggest old Town Malaga. We had an amazing family holiday there. Loads of sights/culture/history and beach is not too far away. Lots of nice play parks dotted around for children too. It feels like Spain, whereas we spent a few days around the resorts in Costa del Sol and they were like Blackpool.

Caorle- marvellous beach, affordable hotels and self catering - and for DH jump on the ferry to Venice, plenty culture there!

I second Dubrovnik and Croatia..beautiful place, friendly people, the most gorgeous water ever..

I just went to Porto. Lovely but don't think the beach would meet tour requirements. It's out of town and the sand is gritty.

Bulgaria. Cheap, ruins, old town

I have just discovered the Polish coast!

I am going here in August Darlowo

Beautiful medieval town, lots of interesting stuff, really cheap, and the beaches are all amazing sand dunes and ancient harbours.

It's really, really cheap as well, both to fly and eat/drink/stay there.

The Air bnb place we have booked is £30 a night for 2 adults and a 5 yr old!

It is also lovely and hot in August.

Croatia is endlessly beautiful..the people are wonderful..the water is absolutely gorgeous and clear and full of beautiful fish (though mostly pebbly beaches not sand, but somehow they are better)..the food is yummy..beauty, culture, beaches..it's got the lot.
