What if flight name doesn't exactly match passport

DH has booked plane tickets in our DC's shortened versions of their name (e.g. Tom rather than Thomas), however passports have their full names. Will this pose a problem at check-in? We are flying short haul with Ryanair.

My first/given name on passport as "Md Zakir" and I have used only "Zakir" as first name on my emirates flight from London UK to Dhaka Bangladesh to London UK, any suggestion whether it will cause any problem on boarding, it will cost me £63 to change the name on the ticket to "Md Zakir".

I had misspelled the name of my dd, and it's just a short process changing it. But next time, always check it.
