Will it be unbearable?

I thought I might actually die of the hot in London last summer...hottest day...was it end of august?? 30++
It's the one thing that really worries me about going to forrin climes!

Mmmmm. Here I am about to book up for Naples or Pompeii for this August (2 adults, a 13 year old and a 9 year old).
We went to Lake Garda last August and it was hot but not unbearable. Is it much different at Naples?

It will be very hot, Naples shuts down from 15 th August as the Italians head off on holiday. I'd recommend staying at a beach location rather than a city location over the summer months. Are you very keen on Pompei? You can do it in a day so have never thought of it as a holiday destination but have to admit I've not been into town

Like being hit repeatedly over the head with a tin tray.

Naples will be completely different to Lake Garda. All the Neapolitans go to lake garda in August to avoid the awfulness that is Naples in August.

We were just going to use Pompeii or Naples as a base. We usually hire a car and travel to a few places close by.
This heat talk is definitely putting me off. Going to have a root around at other destinations.

I live in Italy but a bit further North and it is too hot in August. Too hot even to go to the park after 9am. We now go back to the UK for a bit of refreshing drizzle.

We literally just returned from a week in Naples and Rome, and at 17 degrees in late February, the weather was just about perfect. I highly recommend off-season travel! We did the same in Athens a few years ago. Nicer weather, fewer crowds, awesome.
I could not imagine what August would be like in Southern Italy, especially if you head to Pompeii. I've previously been to Italy in late June and that was uncomfortable enough.

Too hot to move around much and appreciate all that the cities have to offer. Even the Italians knob off during August because it's so hot.

Hot as hell - don't do it! By the sea or mountains only at that time of year, but by the sea will be busy and expensive. End of May half term would be a lovely time to go
