Cornwall nr Wadebridge

We are having a long weekend staying St Eval, which is between Wadebridge and Newquay

We have DD 3 - but only there for 3 full days - any suggestions on what we can do, where we can go..

It is my birthday whilst we are there so would like to go somewhere nice but that takes children (she is pretty well behaved so no problem with that - but would need a suitable menu for her too)..

Any suggestions welcome

Sorry, no help with nice place to eat but you've got to take your DD to DairyLand. My boys love it and I have to admit I do to.

You're not far from the Eden project there, and Heligan. And as for a posh meal howabout Padstein . About 5 miles down the road. There's the really really posh place and a more relaxed bistro type things I beleive.

How about going to Fifteen in Newquay. They have a lunchtime kids menu and you get to try the adult stuff.
Another vote for Heligan - was superb. Didn't like the Eden Project though.
Hmm. Padstow good for a wander. Could take the ferry over to Rock to wander on the dunes. Or if you're feeling fit, hire bicylces at Padstow (they have trailer/kids ones too I think) and cycle up the Camel Trail as far as you fancy.

cheers for the responses..

Dairyland Farm world does sound good - at first I thought not worth it as my friend (were we are staying) has cows, sheep etc - but looking at the website DL has soo much more..

Been to Eden Project before.. Heligan looks nice (great website) but wonder is there anything for DD 3 to do? DH is a Landscape Architect/Urban Designer so would want to spend hours and hours in there!

Like Padstow - is the Camel Trail flat??

Rick Steins seafood restaurant does not take kids under 3yrs. we have dd whos 3.4 , she is well beaved and enjoyed her lunch there - they do have a nice small kids menu. Fifteen is great for adults , we ate there for dinner without our dd , but didnt try for lunch , which they do have a kids menu . hope this helps!

The Camel Trail is fantastically flat! We've hired bikes and cycled along it with the kids in trailers on the back, dead easy! I must admit though, I loathe Padstein - far too crowded, and heaving with tourists even off-season. But the kids (and DH) love the speedboat tours from the harbour so we have to go everytime we're there.

Rojano's in Wadebridge is nice and big and airy - like a cornish Pizza Express. There is also a branch in Padstow. The advantage of the Wadebridge one is that it is next to a fab shoe shop called J's shoes. Lovely cheap cool shoes - Moshulu, Crocs, Quicksilver etc- some real bargains!

The Camel Trail is as flat as a pancake.

How about the Lappa Valley railway near Newquay or is it just because we have 3 boys (and a girl) that we have been there so often? It is several minature railways with an adventure playground, pond, etc thrown in.

cheers for all you replies...

shame we are not going to for longer now to fit it all in...

Any more suggestions welcome (just in case), especially restuarant reviews...

Chip shop in Port Isaac is the best for miles around!
Oooooh chipssssss!

Surfermum · 02/03/2007 10:42

DD (also 3) really enjoyed Crealey and Lappa Valley. If it's wet there's Ben's Playworld at St Austell.

Polzeath is one of my favourite beaches (but I always spend a fortune in the surf shops there ). It's great for a wander round on the beach to blow the cobwebs away.

DumbledoresGirl · 02/03/2007 13:00

Surfermum, have you check out my profile? All beach pictures there (summer and winter!) are taken on Polzeath!

kittypants · 02/03/2007 13:07

Just wanted to say that we had a fab time..

We went to Wadebridge (much nicer than I thought it would be)..

Padstein, and Newquay (not so nice out of season).. went to the aquarium...

Didn't need to do half the things you mentioned just because it was so nice just to walk around and go onto the beach etc..

We went to WaterGate Bay which was lovely yesterday. I just love Cornish beaches with the waves crashing down, it was really sunny but very cold and very noisy (waves)..

had a great time, and will definately be coming back in the summer...

(Got to get at least one more trip in before we move another 3 hrs away later in the year so not as likely to be traveling down to cornwall in the future .
