Hair straighteners in the US

This is a long shot but has anyone used SCP hair straighteners in the US? I have just bought some to use on a trip to the US as the company assured me that they could be used worldwide. Just received them and the voltage says 200-240V which I take to mean they can't be used in the US which is 110V. The company tell me now that even though they are not dual voltage people report that they have used them successfully in the US. Should I send them back? Can anyone recommend some decent dual voltage straighteners? Help - don't need bad hair when I am out there!

Sounds like you will need to buy a travel adaptor for use in the USA in order to use them there.

Send them back, you will not be able to use them in the USA, it's as simple as that. And do not buy from that company again b/c they are clearly full of it. GHD have just come out with a dual voltage version of their straighteners which I am SO excited about. Pricey but worth it if you can't do without straighteners.

DD wrecked her GHD's trying to use them in the USA. They cost £44 to get repaired. I have just bought myself the dual voltage ones, as I am off to China, Hong Kong and Riyadh, just got back from the Maldives and used them there.

You would need to use a voltage converter, but they cost about £50 I think.

Had this conversation with my hairdresser last week, he suggested just buying a cheaper set there, makes perfect sense.K Mart and Target do good US makes pretty cheap.

alibubbles, you don't need to use a voltage converter on dual voltage electrical items, in fact this will probably damamge them. You only need to swap the switch on the straighteners. Sometimes it automatically switches the voltage depending on the product. Not sure if the new GHD dual voltage straighteners have a switch or do it automatically. You will however need a plug adapter but these will only cost a couple £'s. Enjoy your new straighteners!
