Travelling to Ireland for a 3 day break without car

Hi,
We want to go to either the West or Southern part of Ireland- probably for a 3 day break in May I have only been to Dublin and the Midlands before. We have a 10 year old son who isn't used to walking long distances. We don't want to be anywhere where it is too remote/quiet .Please can anyone advise me: Are there any places to stay where you can get by without a car? Was hoping to be not too far away from the coast. Would be looking at staying in a b+b.What airports are good to fly in to?
Any tips /advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I think we are keen to visit Cork and the surrounding areas. It sounds like there is plenty to do and see. We are very tempted indeed.

Yes, I think it sounds like a good place for a short break. Although Westport does sound and look beautiful, I feel it may be too quiet for us. I have never been to the South part of Ireland so I am curious!

If you go to Cork you should go to Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney stone. Clonakilty in West cork Is beautiful. It has a great railway museum there that my kids loved.

You could fly into Dublin. Get bus or train to Galway city (2hrs). Lots to do in Galway and it is on the coast so beach nearby, and everything is walkable.Lots of little streets with cafes and restaurants , but also good shopping. The tourist office in Galway will give you lots of choices of day trips to cliffs moher, bunratty etc and you can also get boat trip to Aran Islands. Salthill, in Galway ,has a long promenade, whre you can walk by the beach, with ammusements, pubs etc...v lively. Yes, Im biased ,as Im from Galway, but really there is so much to do there!! All my friends /relatives from U.S and Britain love coming back to Galway.

I think Cork is by far the best option if direct flights are available. Cork is a great place to stay. Kinsale is gorgeous and withing each reach if you fancy staying in a smaller town rather than a city.
