terrified of flying - any advice to help get through a long haul?

Trip to Japan and no backing out. Do you have any advice for someone who is pertrified of flying? I have done a short trip to greece as practice after not flying for ten years but I had to take loads of tranqs and was zonked.

Now to Japan for work thing so need to be on the ball and not look like a scardey pants wuss.

Any tips most grateful. My particular fear is the notion of being 'hemmed in' (can only sit on aisle seats in theatre FFS!)

Try hypnotherapy. I am doing it for several fears but have only had one session so not sure. My GP said it is a very effective form of therapy.

Valium was helpful although i don't seem to be able to remember the first couple of days of hols.

Done all that hypnosis stuff. Worked short term (very short term) only, in fact one flight to Greece and back about 14 years ago

Unfortunately that didn't work for me either....perhaps if I mainlined it all through the flight it might!

On a flight to NY, a lovely American lady gave me some Xanax, which calmed me down, but it felt like it wasn't real. I was still scared, but not panicky. Which is better I suppose.

The worst thing about being scared, IMO, is that you haven't just got to get through it once. If that was the case, it wouldn't be so bad. You have to come back as well!

Was taking it 1 week before hols, and had 1 too many vodkas on plane,...have insane grin on most of the holiday photos. Not recommended

I dont like flying. Not sure i could say it was a fear as it doesnt stop me.

I find it helps if i read a good book, and try to pretend I'm just in a big room.

Is there really anyone that likes flying?

My doctor gives me anti anxiety medication. It really works and I recommend it.
