Singapore airlines to Australia - is premium economy worth paying for?

I'm hoping to go for a quick visit to family; because I won't be there for very long, I thought it would be good to make the flights themselves as pleasant as possible Grin

Singapore airlines are offering the best flight times, and it will be just shy of £1400 economy or £2300 premium economy.

Is it worth paying the extra? I've heard good things about Singapore airlines, but never flown them before. I was wondering if their economy service would be good enough?

Singapore Airlines economy is much better than Qantas. They (used to ) bring you hot flannels that really restore you every few hours do use them. Put them right over your face and lie back then finish off by wiping your hands or have two. It really makes a difference. Nothing is too much trouble, service is fantastic and I have never known them forget a drink etc. unfortunately can't say the same with Qantas - hit and miss.
Do go to the pool in the airport if you have time. Just be careful of timings as I once nearly missed flight because they turned the plane around in one hour and 25 minutes instead of the two and a half they thought and it was the messiest I have ever been on. We went to the top restaurant and you couldn't hear the announcements. Lots of people were the same when called to gate. Never happened to me before. I think it was Qantas but at Singapore. I would also recommend their chicken broth in the restaurant ( if not veggie) as again very restorative and delicious. Have a lovely trip wish I was going 😥

I also usually stay over. I go to the Furama. Great service and an outdoor pool on the fifth floor amazing. You can have a massage too if you want. They will arrange a car too. Once a driver didn't pick us up at the airport and the manager rang and told them off. We had a top of the range Mercedes and a chauffeur back to the airport! My daughter couldn't believe it was for us😄

I'm booked with Singapore going out on the morning flight, economy. It's a really good time to fly as I get there the next day, rather than the morning of the day after. Coming back I decided to go for premium economy, as I get back on Sunday morning and gave t back to work on Monday!

I'm coming home today Sad
Outward flight was OK but I have to say I was disappointed by Singapore air - nothing different or better than Qantas, BA or Virgin.
But coming back Premium Economy so I'll let you know how I fare with that.

So I'm back!

For the record, not really sure Premium Economy was worth the extra money.

What you get:

Early boarding
Small cabin
Wider seats (configuration in the A380 is 2/4/2 rather than 3/4/3 in economy)

Whoops pressed enter too soon!

Also get:

Foot rest and leg support that you can raise
A slightly lower reclining seat

The food looked the same as in economy, but you're also offered Champagne, which isn't offered in economy

I'm not sure I slept any better than going out on economy, so don't think I'd bother to pay the extra next time.

Thanks for the info BIWI. We're looking to fly to NZ in December and we usually fly business with Emirates but can't stretch to that this time (sob sob) so looking at economy flights instead. I am drawn to Singapore Air because they seem to get a good write-up on MN, but gutted that it's not really any different from any of the other major airlines. Might investigate Malaysian air (though hit and miss I think) and Cathay Pacific. Mindful though that a couple of hundred pounds less on the cost of flights means a better upgrade on a hire car and we'll be spending as much time in the hire car as we will in the air!
